oof, this is another thing that I do almost entirely by feel but Imma try to explain the basic idea ^^"""
I drew up a quick dog base for reference and drew in the areas that I usually draw fluff on, there should be less on the face and paws than the rest of the body and most around the tail/butt and chest. when I draw fur I usually do induvidual floofs in teardrop shapes where the wide part is attached to the body and the point is pointing away from the body, sometimes I mix in a spike shape and sometimes a curl or two to mix it up, at the end of fluffy areas I start doing smaller spikes and induvidual lines to ease it in and out because you dont want an abrupt ending unless you're doing bald spots. when drawing ears you should go for smooth tips and add gradually more floof towards the bottom ending in cheek fluff, imagine tails as all the floof trying to get to the tail tip but most of it failing because of gravity and length. when an area of my lineart feels empty I add in some smaller lines to look like induvidual hairs but if you add too many of these it will end up looking bad so be careful with that.
