There was nothing he could say to make this better,and Desertstar knew that if he said something he'd probably end up lashing out about how he knew Petalpelt better than anyone else,and Stormyskies knew nothing about her and had no right to say he caused her life to be miserable,but in all reality,it was his fault. He had done this to her,if he had just kept his feelings to himself,she'd still be alive,and would be a wonderful medicine cat and a loving aunt to Rosepaw,Irispaw and Dandelionpaw. . . .He forced back a heartbroken sob,curling his tail tightly around his body.He began to shake,his claws unsheathing and his heart pounding in his chest."I am going to tell you right now Stormyskies,you did not make her miserable. I saw her when she was around you and your sister and Pebblepool. That was the happiest I have ever seen your mother.She loves you so much. . and if ecstatic you are thriving and are living a wonderful life. Her death was a tragic tragic incident and If i could,I would trade all of my lives for her to back here by your side,but I can't. I've tried Stormyskies,I've tried bargaining, I've tried debating,I've tried purely yelling at Brightstar and Pebblepool to bring her back. . . but they also tell me that that is not something they can or are willing to do. . . .I'm sorry okay? Everything that has happened is my fault. If I had been the tom my parents wanted me to be- instead of acting like Valentine and Indigoflame. . .instead of being a horrible leader,instead of wallowing in self pity,things would be different. If i had been the sweet,intelligent tom Arctictrot is,or the adventurous,brave tom Foreststep is things would be different." He looked up at the sky,his whiskers twitching as he watched the snow fall. There was nothing he could do to make anything better,he was horrible,the worst leader. . . maybe his thoughts of leaving the clan for a while weren't such a bad idea after all.
