High up in the mountains of North America and Europe, you will find curious looking equids. They are short, with long, twiggy legs and a swishing tail, similar to a cat's. They have a mane that continues down their back and part of their tail. Males are fluffier, with underbelly fur and extra leg and face fur. The equids have extra large ears for better hearing, but small nostrils, so their sense of smell is less effective. But then again, predators can go down wind, but nothing can stop the crumbling of rocky ledges. When they sleep, they curl their tails around themselves for warmth and comfort. These equids have no natural weapons and no strength, so during mating the males, as opposed to fighting, make their mane stand on end, which makes them look bulkier. The equid with the longest mane and bulkiest body will create the hardier foals. But due to their skinny legs and weak back, an equid cannot be ridden. So they continued to live peacefully in the mountains.

Species Information

Species Information

Wild Mountain Equids, knowns as WMEs or Equids, are an equid breed that have adapted to their mountainous home. They have evolved to feature long, donkey like ears, allowing them to hear predators. They have a continuous mane, feathers on their legs and long hair on their tails to keep them warm. Their cat like tail and long legs help them balance on rocky terrain and give them added agility when escaping predators. However, their most striking feature is the unique striping pattern, called ‘Quipping’. It can come in a range of colours and patterns, contrasting or complimenting the base coat, which can be in any colour seen in domestic horses. Males feature more fur on the legs, head and chest to protect them when they defend their herd. They generally grow to between 11 hand high and 15 hands high, but there are exceptions.

WMEs behave similarly to horses, in that they form herds. This can be a herd of mares led by a stallion or a bachelor herd of stallions. Equids can also form mated pairs, however, if the stallion is injured or killed they will find another. They have a single foal each breeding, weaning at between 6 months to a year, when the foal is ejected from the herd. Domestic WMEs have been known to form herds with domestic horses and donkeys, but have never bred with them. Though they can be domesticated, they exist like zebras in zoos, they can be relatively docile but retain some of their wild spirit.

WMEs can be found in most mountainous locations around the world provided there is water and a food source. They are herbivores subsisting on a diet of grasses, berries and leaves. They are particularly partial to root vegetables.

Domesticated WMEs can be trained to take part in non-ridden events, such as carriage driving, Skijoring, in-hand showing and agility type events. Participating in events helps keep domestic equids out of trouble and help provide them with mental stimulation. It also helps with bonding with their human.

A recent research trip in mountainous areas with established equid herds identified a new species of equid that lives higher in the mountain, featuring a fluffier tail to help them survive in the harsher climate. This has been named the ‘Ragtail’ variant, due to the resemblance to a ragdoll cat tail.

Species Guidelines

Postby horsy1050 » Sun Feb 08, 2015 10:17 am

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
General Equid Guidelines
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    - All equids have a series of stripes over their body which is called quipping. On rare occasions, equids may not have these stripes, which is called quipless.
    - Equids stand between 11.0 hh to 15.0 hh to the shoulder with rare exceptions outside this range.
    - Due to their thin legs and weak back, equids cannot be ridden, but can be shown in other ways such as in hand or pulling carts
    - Alternate Equid Genes: Ragtail (a thick fluffy tail)
    - Equids can be designed as anthros or humans but cannot be transferred to other feral species
    - Owners can design the pinto markings off-side of their equid. The base coat and quipping must be the same type/style as the official visible side
    - Unlimited ownership and no requirements to adopt an equid
      - You must comment on the equid’s page with a link to the new owner if you transfer/sell it
    - In order to sell or trade a design you have acquired, you must have owned the equid for 2 months.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Design Guidelines
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    - Equids have similar base coats as those found in horses: Black, bay and chestnut. This includes their various shades ex. Light bay, blood bay, liver chestnut, etc
    - Equids have similar coat dilutions as those found in horses: Cream, double cream, champagne, sooty, roan, silver, flaxen, greying, dun and white.
      - This includes their various shades ex. Chocolate palomino, isabella palomino, buckskin, etc.
      - Multiple dilutions can be found on one equid ex. Silver sooty buckskin

    - Equids have similar white patterns as those found in horses: Tobiano, sabino, overos, splash, toveros, rabicano
      - This includes their variations and expresses in a white to off-white colour

    - “Blue Taffy” is not a recognized coat colour in equids at this time
    - For quipping, please see the quipping guide
    - “Skull Face Marking” is classified as an equid which has an extensive marking on the face which has a clearly defined eye socket and nasal opening with clear teeth-like marks. This may include a lower jaw or only an upper jaw.
    - Equids that have line edits (ex. the heart maned Valentine’s equids) can breed but will not pass down their line edits to keep things simple

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Breeding Guidelines
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    - Equids have 10 slots at their creation and gain 1 additional slot on Jan 1st each year after.
    - Breedings are normally between a mare and a stallion outside the special May breeding event
    - Permission to use an equid in a breeding is required for any equids not owned by the user requesting the breeding for themselves
      - Screenshot proof or a link to equid storage with the user’s name listed in the breeding slots must be supplied when ordering the breeding
    - A user can request a breeding for someone else, just please make sure to note clearly who it is going to
    - Up to 3 traits can be requested for any given breeding. There are tokens purchasable from the ARPG allows for more requests to be made when breeding
    - Traits that can be requested for a breeding:
      - Eye Colour
      - Sex
      - Base Colour
      - Dilutions
      - White/Pinto Marks
This includes similar markings to one of the parents (ex. dad’s stockings, mom’s face, etc). This is used to inspire a similar mark and will not produce a 1:1 copy. (Exception for skull face marking. Please see below for details on how it is passed)

      Quipping Style
      Quipping Colour(s)
Exclusion of Specific Features (ex. no roan roll)
    - Traits that cannot be requested and are rolled as a random %:
      - Roan - 50% chance for 2 roan parents, 25% chance for 1 roan parent
      - The individual submitting the breeding can request that this is not rolled so the roan coat will not be passed down
      - Ragtail - Guaranteed for 2 ragtail parents, 50% chance for 1 ragtail parent
      - Somatic traits - 10% chance of passing down the somatic trait
      - The individual submitting the breeding can request that this is not rolled so the somatic trait will not be passed down
      - Skull Face - Has various possibilities dependant on the parents, please refer below for these passing percentages.
    Image

    - Skull face markings - inherited by random percentage chance depending on the pairing of the parents as outlined below
      - Full skeleton x Skull Face equid = 75% chance to pass down (3/4)
      - Full Skeleton x Regular equid = 66% chance to pass down (2/3)
      - Skull Face equid x Skull Face equid = 33% chance to pass down (1/3)
      - Skull Face equid x Regular equid = 25% chance to pass down (1/4)

    - Chimera and Quipless have a very rare chance of being produced at random in breedings (5% chance of occurring)
      - The individual submitting the breeding can request that this is not rolled for breedings where they do not wish the chance of a chimera or quipless to be produced. This is not counted as one of your requests.
      - Tokens purchased from the ARPG can be used to boost the chances of inheritance of the above by 10% - this needs to be added to the RPG prizes list
    - Event equids pass down their event traits (ex. Dragon, skeleton, valentines etc) during their event month window
      - A token is available for purchase in the WME ARPG which can be used to enable 1 event equid breeding outside of this event month window - this needs to be added to the RPG prizes list
      - Outside of event months, all event equids have a very rare chance to breed out an event equid (1%). The token negates this and guarantees an event equid
      - Skull markings can be passed down from skeletons outside of the October window. Please see the above for the details on how this will be passed down.
    - Event equids only need 1 event parent to pass down their respective event during their month.
      - If two different event equids are bred together (ex. dragon and skeleton), it will only produce one of those two event equids (either dragon or skeleton).
      - If two different event equids are bred together during an event month (ex. January or October), it will result in the associated event equid being produced.
      - If two different event equids are bred together outside of an associated event month, the artist chooses which of the two event features will pass down in the event of the 1% roll success.
      - If the event equid breeding token from the ARPG is used, which event equid features are passed down by pairing two different event equids is decided by the person requesting the breeding (ex. requesting skeleton or dragon)

Coat and Quipping Guidelines

Postby horsy1050 » Sun Feb 08, 2015 10:25 am

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Colours and Markings
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Base Coats:
Equids can be any base coat that is available to domestic horses, ranging from chestnut, bay and black to coats with modifiers such as champagne, palomino, grullo, roan and others.
Roan remains rare in equids although it is no longer considered a special coat.
White Markings:
Equids can have any of the paint markings found in domestic horses including splash, overo, tobiano, rabicano, sabino and any combination of these.
Equids also come in appaloosa coats, however these are considered 'special coats' and have their own rules for breeding.

WME Themes

Postby horsy1050 » Sun Feb 08, 2015 10:38 am

Theme Equid Guidelines

    - Theme equids are all connected by a common theme, often with a special trait. Each theme is usually made up of ~6 equids per theme but they can be more or less than that
    - Specialized quip designed specifically for a theme must be altered when bred down (ex. lily quip becomes filled quip).
    - Specialized quip designed for the “mini event” themes may be requested in customs but cannot be labelled as part of the theme (ex. firework/beaded pinpoint quip). Lily quip cannot be requested at this time as it was so specific to the theme.
    - Specialized markings designed for the theme must be altered when bred down (ex. white wing marks become more standard shaped white marks)
    - Specialized markings may be requested in customs but cannot be labelled part of the theme (ex. wing marks)

WME Event Equids

Postby horsy1050 » Sun Feb 08, 2015 10:55 am

Event Equid Guidelines

Event equids are based on specific events, such as the winter holidays, Valentines, Halloween, Summer, etc.
    - The colours or quipping would be considered illegal on a regular equid
    - They can be bred all year round but can only produce event foals at certain times of the year. Otherwise they produce regular foals.
    - They cannot breed together

    Event equids include:
      - Dragon equids
      - Valentines equids
      - Skeleton equids
      - Winter equids
      - Rainbow equids

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Event Equids
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Image

Dragon Equids
Breeding Window: January 1st to January 31st
- Classified by brighter more saturated patterning with dark quipping and dapples.
- White or black whisker/s running down their body, Commonly 1 or 2 - but rarely 3 whiskers can be seen.
- Often bright colours appear in mane where quipping touches.
- Breeding during the event window in January will pass down event traits with 100% success.
- Breeding outside their event window will pass down event traits at 1% chance.
- Please see the next points for the appearance of their offspring if the event trait is not rolled.
- Colours, including mane, when bred outside January should diluted ex. Red to chestnut
- Whisker cannot be passed down outside January
- Dragons cannot breed with other dragons

Quip Categories
- Regular quip with whiskers is the most common type of Quip
- All types and variations of quip are rare but possible on Dragon Equids

Appaloosa Equids
Breeding Window: May 1st to May 31st
    - Equids with a spotted appaloosa coat with quipping
    - Includes all variations of appaloosa ex. Blanket, fewspot, leopard, etc.
    - Normally sterile, these equids cannot breed outside of the specialized May breeding event
    - All appaloosas will receive 10 breeding slots which can only be used in the specialized May breeding event. They are not able to receive more due to their normally sterile nature.
    - Appaloosas cannot breed to other appaloosas.
    - The small table below shows what kind of appaloosas you can expect when breeding down specific marking types and the percentage chance of them passing.
      - Fewspot Appaloosa - 25% chance of passing down Fewspot Appaloosa and 75% chance of passing down Leopard Appaloosa
      - Leopard Appaloosa - 100% chance of passing down Leopard Appaloosa
      - Snowcap Appaloosa - 25% chance of passing down Snowcap Appaloosa and 75% chance of passing down Blanket Appaloosa
      - Blanket Appaloosa - 100% chance of passing down Blanket Appaloosa
      - Varnish Appaloosa - 25% chance of passing down Varnish Appaloosa and 75% chance of passing down Snowflake Appaloosa
      - Snowflake Appaloosa - 100% chance of passing down Snowflake Appaloosa
    - Breeding an appaloosa with a pinto may result in a pintaloosa unless a request is used not to pass down the pinto marks. This means that the foal will have pinto marks from the pinto parent as well as the corresponding appaloosa marks from the appaloosa parent.
    - Appaloosa cannot breed to Appaloosa

Quip Categories
- Can have any form of quipping

WME Special Equids

Postby horsy1050 » Sun Feb 08, 2015 11:03 am

Special Equid Guidelines

Special equids are equids that have natural but rare coat colours, much like their relatives the horse. These coats are naturally occurring and cannot be bred. There is a chance you can obtain special traits from breeding, see the breeding guidelines for more information.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Special Equids
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chimera Equids
    - Equids that have two sets of genes. This means that the equid displays two different coats and quipping patterns
-Foals of chimeras only display one set of the chimera parent’s genetics
-Which set is used for the foal can be requested when ordering the breeding

Somatic Equids
    - Equids that have a portion of their dilution genes which is ‘turned off’, resulting in bloody shoulder, grease spots, birdcatcher spots, cobwebbing, etc.
Quipless Equids
    - Equids without any quip showing on their body
    - Quipless equids still produce a foal with quip, even if two quipless are bred together with a random quip style chosen
    - Foals can inherit any quip style from their quipless parent

Frequently Asked Questions

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
General
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • How do I adopt?
Equids that are available for adoption will have "Adopt me" on their image. Details on how to adopt that equid will be on that particular equids first page.
Custom equids can be ordered from artists, this is will need to be agreed with them.
  • There used to be criteria for adopting, is this still the case?
No. There used to be but these have been removed so anyone can adopt.
  • If I leave CS do I have to re-adopt out my equids?
No. Even if you leave CS you adopted them and can continue to love them even after you leave.
  • Can I post my equids off-site?
Yes you can as long as you link back to main CS topic.
  • Can I sell/trade/give-away equids?
Yes. You can sell, trade and give away equids. All you need to do is post on the original adoption page who the new owner is.
Please make sure that payment requests are reasonable and follow Chicken Smoothie site rules.
  • How do I get a special/event equid?
You either need to take part in the event or win a special custom. Only then can you get a special equid.
  • Why are special/event equids special?
First generation event equids can only be obtained at certain times of the year or during events, the only exception is Skeleton equids that can breed other skeleton equids.
Likewise special equids are special because their coats are rare.
  • Why are Event equids rarer then special equids?
Event equids are only made once a year which makes them rarer then regular equids, especially if they are ordered as customs outside the event date.
  • Can we post on all the official topics?
Yes. You are free to post on any WME topic unless it states otherwise either in the title or in the first post of the topic.
  • Can I convert my equids into another breed/species?
Equids can be shown as humans and anthros but cannot be converted into other animals.
  • What is the difference between a 'Full' custom and a 'Semi' custom?
A full custom is where you design everything on a template first and the artist transfers it to the lines. A semi-custom equid is where you pick the base colour, type of quipping, gender, etc and the artist will use their own interpretation.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Species Traits
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • Do equids have to be wild?
No, equids can be domesticated and live with other horses/donkeys/animals
  • Can equids be in same gender relationships?
    Yes they can.
  • Would equids ever mate with horses or donkeys?
No they wouldn't, even in a confined environment a equid would never mate with another species. Any embryo between species never develops.
  • Can equids be friends with other species?
Certainly! They are a social species but also very cautious, much like horses, but they can certainly be friends with any species that doesn't attempt to eat or harm them.
  • How to equids behave?
They are very much like horses, they live in herds and need the company of others to feel safe.
  • Can equids be ridden?
Due to their weak backs they cannot hold a weight on their backs, it is also uncomfortable to put saddles on the mane along their back. They can however take a harness and pull carriages/sledges.
  • How tall can equids be?
They can be between 11.0 hands high (hh) and 15hh. There are some exceptions due to a past miscommunication.
  • Do equids age?
It is up to you if and when your equid ages, you can keep it eternally young or age it faster due to roleplays.
  • Can I design my own equid/make a custom?
Only if you have won a custom from a competition, the 200 equid challenge or as a gift. However it will be created in the lines by an artist and tweaked to fit rules.
  • What is "Quipping"?
Quipping was the name I created for the style of stripes found on equids. It was done to see who copied equids, seeing if they switched quipping our for brindle.
  • Does quipping have to fit certain rules?
Yes it does. You can find more information on quipping in the Markings and Quipping section.
  • Are there different types of quipping?
Yes there is, see the Markings and Quipping section for information and diagrams.
  • Do equids have to have natural base coats?
Yes they do. They can have any horse coat with any combination of paint markings.
  • Can equids have any eye colour?
Yes they can, from green to blue or purple to orange, if its a colour it can be an equid eye colour.
  • Can equids have odd coloured eyes?
Yes if the paint markings go over the eye on one side and not the other.
  • Are equid markings symmetrical?
They can be, or the equid can have slightly different markings/quipping on the opposite side. It still matches the style and colour of the opposite side but the layout of the quipping can vary and paint markings can be seen more on one side then the other.

  • How do I become an artist?
As we are looking to restart WMEs slowly we are currently not looking for new artists. If this changes we will make an announcement.
  • How do I become a guest artist?
As we are looking to restart WMEs slowly we are not currently looking for artists. If this changes we will make an announcement.
  • How do I become a moderator?
We are looking to move towards WMEs being self governed so there will be no need for moderators. If players notice rule breaking they can report it to horsy1050, the artists or to Chicken Smoothie moderators.
