Equid Number: 17
Owner: .Tink.
Equid Name: Phega (I decided to keep her original name, basic back story, and owner. The only thing I changed about her name is the pronunciation. It went from Pay-ga to Fay-ga)
How shortness affects her:
(I am very sorry its so long DX, Word count is 789)
Phega says she doesn't mind, and that's true for the most part but deep down inside there is more to the story. Phega was born in a zoo where all kinds of things could be found, a small digging pit for kids to find hidden treasure, a petting zoo, carousel, wild animal exhibits, and of course pony rides. Phega was to be used for the latter. Though born in a zoo exhibit Phega was planned to be moved right away. Luckily before they tried it the keepers found out from more experienced equid owners that wild mountain equids could not be ridden. So, she was moved to the petting zoo. Phega was actually lucky to have been born in captivity as a dwarf equid would not have been able to survive in the wild. Phega started out the same size as other foals, but she failed to continue growing at three years of age. She was teased by the other foals, and even the goats that were smaller than her picked on Phega occasionally. Phega only ever made one friend, before she befriended Kealey. Her friend was a young equid like herself. The two never left each others side. One day Phega and her friend Angel were bored and wandering around the petting zoo, when two older equids came up to them. They smirked and started to tease Phega, and then they turned to Angel and teased her for being a friend to a "Shortie". Angel felt tense, and for a moment didn't know what to do. Then her pride and the fact that she was frightened got the better of her. "She's not my friend!" Angel fibbed, "I was just explaining to her that she should stop coming around the equids and hang out with her true family, the donkeys." Angel looked away when she saw Phega begin to cry, "Come on guys, lets hang out with a... a better crowd." Angel turned away, but Phega finally found her tongue and spoke up. "Angel," Phega yelled after her. "Now you know where you belong, so go." Phega never felt the same again, and she never spoke to Angel again. That was the one time that the fact that she was short really got to her. Kealey was a young blind girl, who went to the petting zoo often, as it stimulated her smell, hearing, but most of all touch, sometimes making her almost forget that she was blind. One day Kealey came to the petting zoo for the same reason that anyone did, because she enjoyed it. When Kealey went into the petting zoo, her mother saw a sign on the petting zoo door announcing the new birth of a "Dwarf equid". After she finished reading it she explained it to Kealey who looked around at the fuzzy outlines of the animals until she found the right one. Kealey couldn't see for the most part but she could make out fuzzy outlines if she tried. Kealey walked forward towards Phega and said quite abruptly "Short!" As Kealey was only 3 at the time she didn't know many words. Phega turned away thinking that the young girl meant to offend, but kept looking behind her at the girl. She new something was different about her. Phega watched her pass from goat to goat, to miniature donkey, and back around again with a deep uncertainty. Phega slowly approached Kealey and as Kealey felt Phega's horsey ears and nose she again said "Short". This time Phega was not bothered, instead she shrugged it off and lay beside the girl. How they managed to buy Phega from the petting zoo still remains a mystery. Phega was hurt by the comments of the other animals for a little while, but after going to live with Kealey she began to forgive and forget. She now lives happily and her shortness is even helpful to Kealey, she doesn't have to reach up and grab Phega. She is the perfect height. Phega wishes she wasn't so different, but she has learned to accept and sometimes appreciate her shortness. What she lacks in height she makes up for in strength, Phega knows how to get things done. Phega lives in a small stable on Kealey's half-size farm. The stable is just big enough for her to fit and the small size keeps most of the other animals out when she wants to be alone. So in "short" it doesn't affect her any more than a slight itch on the back of her leg. And while its true that Phega helps Kealey its also true that Kealey helps Phega, not only to have someone to love her, but someone to help her in anyway her shortness might effect her.
