I'm giving this a shot because she's so adorable! I also have another JBD dragon whose design is in-progress, so if you, Bleeding Mercury, find that it's a tie between me and another person, please give her to them.
Username: maluruloki
Name: Iolite (from the gemstone with a similar color to her eyes)
Nickname: Io
Artwork: http://www.chickensmoothie.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=986002&start=0Personality: Mischievous like most young creatures, her sense of fun runs on the dangerous side. Playing with predatory animals two times her size? Check. Racing the rip tide back up onto the beach? Check. Climbing high up into dead trees during a lightning storm? Check. "Curiosity killed the cat," they say, but it hasn't killed this JBD youngling yet. However, to be chastised is one of her least favorite things, and she holds grudges like a champ. She'll start talking to you again...after a while.
Story: Her friends knew exactly where to find Iolite on a day like this. The clouds had been looming since the late morning. They had broiled up out of the south, dark and threatening, and Iolite had darted off at the first far-off flash of lightning. They called her name again and again, and finally, they found her. They craned their necks to look up towards the canopy as they stood at the base of the tallest tree in the countryside. At least one hundred feet high and swaying in the gathering winds, Iolite was perched happily amongst the top branches, swaying back and forth in the wind.
"Ioliiiiiiiite!!!" She heard her name being called and looked down. Far below, her friends looked like small specks.
"Hi!" she waved wildly, quickly grasping the tree branches as a gust of wind made the tree sway violently.
"Get down, Iolite! It's a storrrrrrm!"
"I know! It's exciting!" The little mostly-blue Jelly Bean Dragon turned her violet-blue eyes back towards the encroaching storm-front and giggled as another chain of lightning lit it from within. All she wanted to do was feel her fur stand on end as a nearby vein of pure elemental electricity struck another tree. The first time, it had been an accident. But now she craved it! Gasping as the first huge gust of wind slammed into the tree tops, she clung on, giggling like a fiend as she rode it out. Her friends were no longer at the base of the tree and she was exhilarated to see another nearer flash. The resulting roll of thunder shuddered in her rib cage and left her tingling. Her fun time immediately came to an end when it started to hail! Large pieces of ice began to pelt her all over and the next loud crash of thunder drowned out her yelping. This wasn't fun anymore! Try as she did, she couldn't find the nearest branch beneath her reaching hind foot. Tears came to her eyes as the hail felt like it got larger. She would have welts after this. Suddenly, all of her fur began to rise. It was like nothing she had ever felt before - stronger this time and it scared her to her core. With a blinding flash, the tree next to her seemed to explode as the shaft of lightning bit into its canopy. She was flung off the dead tree and through the air, wildly grasping for anything to stop her descent to the forest floor. Branch after branch knocked the breath from her as she somersaulted down the layers of canopies and finally, her world came to a blessed stop as she landed in a thick pile of leaves at the base of the tree. Groaning and wincing as she rose to her feet, Iolite blinked carefully. Nothing felt broken... Flinching as another flash of lightning lit up the forest floor, she tucked back her ears and ran home as quickly as she could, dodging open spaces where the hail was still falling.
It turns out that Iolite was indeed grounded for a week, but secretly, she didn't mind. Her pelt was ragged, her skin welted, and her chest sore from hitting a branch. It gave her time to recuperate and plan out her next adventure! When her friends visited, they asked her about it. "Next, I'm going to play tag with a grizzly bear!" All they could do was shake their heads and reply,
"Oh, Iolite."
Aw, that was fun to write.
