There are many different species of animals on the acres of land around Little Tree Kennels. Most of them would include deer, opossums and skunks, coyotes, birds, and the occasional elk. Deer and opossums are common in the fields, and Roman makes great friends with them. The deer usually come early morning or dusk to graze on the fresh green grass, and the opossums usually show up around midnight to raid the trash. Often you’ll catch him in the early mornings lying amongst the deer, or at night with the opossums crawling all over him. Occasionally he shows behavior of deer, trying to nip at the grass, or standing alert like one.
The animals that live in the woods just past the meadows, such as coyotes and birds and such, are a different story. The coyotes in the area are divided into two packs, and Roman hates both of them. They come around at night to try and nip some kibble, or to hunt the deer that sometimes sleep in the field. Roman never had much contact with the animals in the forest when he was younger, as it was off limits until he was an adolescent. Now he will bark and howl at the coyotes whenever they come around. Although they never come close enough to him to get harmed, but he sure would try to if they ever did.
From small birds that land in the trees high up, to the owls that land even higher, Roman hates them. They sit at the top of the trees and scream nonsense, and he just can’t get the sound out of him head once it starts. Roman always tries to catch the birds, and sometimes he ends up with a tasty snack. Other times he finds himself head-over-heels on the ground from trying to reach their tiny bodies.
Now for elk and skunks, Roman is lucky. He has yet to run into a skunk, and is happy about that. The foul smell they leave behind is unbearable to him. The elk in the area are rare to see, as they dart and dash through the trees at any sign of danger. However, Roman has been lucky and swore that he saw the herd in the field one morning. Nobody believes him, but he swears up and down that he saw them.
Other hounds that show up to the kennel Roman is usually cold to, but will warm up to them if they are charismatic enough. He would never attack anyone, but will not talk to newcomers unless they talk first.
