this will be a partner competition. you are allowed to try out for both, but I will heavily prefer those who are partnered up, so it is a risk you will take if you decide to go for both. you and your partner must decide who will do which prompt— both of you cannot do the same one. one is writing-oriented and one is art-oriented, so it gives room for a variety of talents— so be sure to discuss with your partner about who will do what. now without further ado, the prompts!

    prompt #1- writing
how are these two lions equal but different (not just in design)? interpret this as you’d like. make sure you discuss with your partner over the other lion’s details / backstory. maximum 1000 words.

    Prompt: (max 1000 words)

    prompt #2- art
how are these two lions able to bond, despite their differences? make sure to discuss with your partner to make sure the two prompts are cohesive. no art maximum, but I will judge on quality rather than quantity.
    Code: Select all

make sure you read the entire post before posting, thank you!

prompt #1
Username: Jantzi01
Lion name: Inang'aa (Swahili for 'Shine')
Lion gender: Female
Link to pride: The Ushirikiano Pride
Lion status: Mage
Link to partner’s form: TheEternalPlague
Prompt: (max 1000 words)

Despite the fact that both Inang'aa and Myurkur were very good apprentice mages, and in the same pride, they didn't really get along at first. She was happy-go-lucky, and it was very easy to make her cry. He was very bitter and cold towards everyone.

Except for her. She was the only lion that he didn't seem to find annoying.

However, she thought he was the most insufferable lion that she'd ever met. He offered to help train her, because although she showed potential, and had magic, she didn't know, and hadn't been trained. She turned him down and ignored him for a while.

She began to admire how skilled he was with his magic, and eventually came around to ask him how he became that powerful. They started training together, and Inang'aa caught up to him fairly quickly.

When their mentor died, they were both assigned as Mages in their pride. They continued to practice their magic together, and they were equally as powerful now. They could move things, and communicate telepathically.

However, he heard a voice in his head one night. It was drawing him to the darkness. He told Inang'aa, and she tried to help, but it was too much for him. The voice was drowning out everything. His thoughts, other lions, the rest of the world. All he could hear, was that evil voice, who kept telling him to kill her.

So, he tried. Oh, how he tried. He just wanted the voice to stop.

She escaped, and went off to find an old friend of her adoptive mother's. Isiyohusika was kind to her, and taught her how to use both light and dark equally, to make sure that her mind didn't get fully swayed to one or the other. She stayed with him for a few months, learning and developing her own style of magic, which consisted of summoning, attempted teleportation, and healing.

Meanwhile, Myurkur was being manipulated. His master merely wanted to use him for his own gain, and throw him away once he was done with him.

But he didn't know that. He had all but forgotten about Inang'aa. He, too, continued to grow his power, and developed his own techniques. He preferred to be very blunt, and a lot of his technique was supposed to be somewhat like a power boost, or a large surge of magic outwards.

Inevitably, the two of them would meet again.

She was hunting, when he suddenly showed up out of nowhere, and pounced on her kill. She, only seeing a dark blur, started to threaten him. When he turned around, she froze. She remembered how he had tried to kill her, and how powerful he was then. She could only assume that he had gotten more powerful, as she had, since she had last seen him.

He growled, and stalked towards her, before trying to pounce on her. She dodged, and tried to flee, but he wouldn't let her. The fight seemed to go on forever, both sides were evenly matched. It was a battle of stamina. Eventually, she stood victorious. Both of them were panting heavily, but he had fallen, several wounds littering his pelt. She sat down to catch her breath, not wanting to kill him.

He looked up at her, confused. He had tried to kill her, multiple times. Didn't she want the same? She stared down at him softly, before going over to him and cleaning his wounds. He didn't understand her, but he went with it. She had forgiven him, right? He started to heal her injuries while she worked on his. At the end of the day, despite their differences, they were equal, and, no matter how much they disagreed, were always going to be soulmates. In every sense of the word.

prompt #1
Username: wucaian
Lion name: Rhea
Lion gender: Female
Link to pride: Mountain Pass Pride
Lion status: Messenger
Link to partner’s form: me
Prompt:
Rhea and Crypt were both orphaned young. They found each other, and huddled together as wild dogs called at night, their wailing cries breaking shattering the silence. Rhea and Crypt came to depend on each other. They grew, they learned to hunt, they survived. They were each other’s best friend and trusted confidant. They were about a year old when everything changed.

Crypt, being older, had always been Rhea’s protector. Her shelter. He left their home, the shade of a lone tree that they had to defend from other rogues, and he didn’t come back. Rhea waited for days before she dared to leave. They’d always been together, to hunt and watch each other’s backs. She didn’t know if she could do this alone. But her best friend was out there, and for some reason, he hadn’t returned.

Rhea was terrified. Crypt was the strong one! She didn’t know if she could do this alone. Crypt’s trail was old, but she did her best to follow it. She avoided other lions, hiding at the first hint of them. But one still found her. She tried to out maneuver them, to run and hide. The lion, Rosario, was huge, mane thick and pelt unscarred. Surely stronger than her.

Instead of harming her, he praised her skills and offered her protection; because a cub shouldn’t be all alone. She said she wasn’t alone. She had her best friend. Rosario offered to help her search. They scoured the land for two more days before he suggested, gently, that Crypt could have perished. Rhea couldn’t believe that, he had to be alive! But why hadn’t he returned to her? She told Rosario she would meet his pride.

The Mountain Pass Pride welcomed Rhea with open paws. She was able to eat until her belly was full, something that it had never been, and on meat far better than she and Crypt had been able to catch. She had food and shelter and a pride full of others who cared for her. Most importantly, they taught her to be strong. The pride trained all their members, no matter their rank. Everyone needed to be able to protect themselves and their pridemates. Under their care, Rhea shined. She learned to fend off opponents much heavier than herself. She learned how to track and stalk through the plains unseen. The Rhea that became a Messenger, one of only two in the pride, had grown beyond the Rhea that was left alone under that tree.

-*-*-*-

Crypt hadn’t meant to be gone so long. He only meant to hunt in the early hours of the morning. But he made a mistake. The kill had been right there! Half picked over but still plenty for the two of them. He didn’t smell them coming, his nose too full of the scent of the meat he was stripping from the carcass.

The pack of wild dogs left him bloody and battered, so he ran. He didn’t dare go home, not wanting to lead anything to Rhea with the scent of his blood. He collapsed in the first shelter he found, exhausted. But before he could recover, he was found and attacked by another rogue male, alerted by the scent of blood. Scared and hurt, Crypt took a meandering path back to their tree. He’d like to say it was caution, but he had gotten lost in his escape. When he returned, there wasn’t sight or smell of Rhea. Not at their home, or the watering hole, or anywhere nearby. She’d moved on without him.

It wasn’t safe to stay, Crypt was terrified others would find him again. So he wandered the dusty plains, alone. He didn’t realize he’d entered another pride’s territory until he was facing down a patrol of four large, scarred males. He pleaded that he meant no harm. Their leader must have seen the truth of his words, because they brought him into their pride. They lived in the sandy bottom of a gorge, the shale cliffs protecting them from the heat.

The Sun Gorge Pride was very strict. Everyone had a role to play, or their existence could be jeopardized. Resources were scarce in the dry season, and the rainy season only brought some relief. They were ruled by their queen, as sharp and cunning as the rest of the pride. As a male, Crypt became one of their warriors who protected the gorge and hunting grounds from trespassers. They honed not only his strength but his mind. The pride did not suffer fools kindly. He discovered he had a talent for strategy: hunting maneuvers, ambushes, negotiations. After only a few years, Queen Fire named him Lead Warrior. He gets lost in his thoughts and his own insecurities. So he keeps to himself when possible. When he’s with his pridemates, he is quiet and non-confrontational. It gives him an air of mystery, some say. He’s cold and calculating, others say. For all his strength, he’s still that same scared cub, abandoned and waiting for someone bigger and stronger to come tear him down.

i'm sorry on the delay everyone, i intended to judge this lion a long time ago but life got in the way, unfortunately. i took a long look at the forms and it took me a while before i was able to come to a strong decision, since every form was super special!

i have decided that the winner for this lion will be MySpoons! the rpg stats were super interesting and i loved how it displayed that together they are stronger. please take care of them, and again thank you for being patient!
