Pride: The Bad News BrotherhoodPride Status: Second in command
Prompt: Tallahassee was not a clever man.
Sure, it might have been pretty obvious for those who knew him that he was about as bright as a shadow, but most others oftentimes mistook him for one that was competent. After all, why else would Yazir choose him to be his successor? It wouldn't make sense, choosing an idiot to run your pride should something happen to you.
Regardless of the semantics of it, the current situation demanded Yazir's attention rather quickly, when his only son had come bolting through the brush and shook him violently, arousing him from his slumber with a start. Yazir glanced over to Rio groggily, failing to notice the look of sheer panic on his face. "Rio...? You had better have a pretty good reason for waking me up so suddenly," he growled, not entirely angry but certainly very peeved. "What is it? Are the hunting grounds on fire?"
"Papa, Papa!" Rio wailed, burrowing his face into Yazir's mane as he shook, clearly frightened.
Finally taking note of his son's distraught behavior, Yazir's tone switched from annoyed to concerned in mere seconds. "Rio, what's the matter? Did something happen?"
Rio shuddered as he spoke, tears welling up in his big green eyes as he spoke. "I... I was playing in the snow, 'cause Akuma said it was alright..."
"And?"
"And I was just running around, I didn't mean any trouble, promise!"
This statement had Yazir's attention immediately. "Rio, what happened? Tell me everything," he said, worry lacing his voice. Could it perhaps have been that Rio stumbled upon an enemy pride? Did they hurt him? Yazir's blood boiled at the mere thought.
Rio quivered. "I-it was a snow lion! He screamed at me, a-and I screamed back, a-and I ran away as fast-"
"Snow lion?" Yazir questioned immediately, racking his brain for any lion he'd met that would bear resemblance to the description alone. "What did he look like? Where did you see him, Rio? It's okay, you can tell me."
"H-he was on the outskirts of the border!" Rio cried. "And he's a snow lion! He's made of snow! Snow lions aren't supposed to talk, Papa, I'm scared!"
Yazir paused at this, standing up abruptly and nudging his son along with him. "Come, Rio."
"Wha...? W-where are we...?"
"You're going to take me to this Snow Lion," he said calmly, addressing his son's panicked look with a soothing, "I just want to see if he's a threat at all. If he's still there, I'd like to speak with him."
Rio nodded hesitantly and hurried off, his father close behind.
...
Tallahassee padded along cautiously, his bright green eyes scanning the area as he looked around for the heir, calling out for him softly. "Rio? Rio, I'm sorry I scared you! Please come out..."
It was no surprise he'd scared the cub; the larger lion was covered head to paw in snow, complete with a carrot hanging from his mouth, as well as two cardinals that had settled themselves quite comfortably into his soft fur. He sighed and turned towards one of the cardinals as it began pulling at his mane, hissing quietly, "Shoo! Beat it, you're gonna get me in a lot of trouble, stupid bird!"
The cardinal merely stared at him, cooing softly, and Tallahassee gave a frustrated groan when suddenly...
"There, Papa! There he is!"
Tallahassee's head whipped towards the sound of Rio's voice as he paled; not only was the cub there, but his father - Yazir, the leader of the Bad Intentions Brotherhood, and Tallahassee's boss, for gods' sake - was staring directly at him, cold green eyes glaring daggers.
"A-ah! Yazir, sir - I-I'm sorry for any trouble I caused, honest! H-hopefully Rio here didn't catch you at a bad time, did he?" Tallahassee chirped nervously, shaking off as much snow as he could (and wincing as the cardinals dug their talons into his pelt in response).
"So this is the Snow Lion, eh?"
Tallahassee blinked in confusion. "What?"
Yazir chuckled and padded forward, Rio cautiously walking alongside him. "Tallahassee. What are you doing?"
"W-well, y'see sir," he began. "I... I know I was supposed to be on patrol, but I was so tired! I figured I'd take a nap - just for a bit - and when I woke up, well..." He motioned towards the snow still coated onto his pelt, as well as the cardinals (who were now staring at the two newcomers warily). "I-I'd initially brought the carrot along as bait for a hare, maybe... I'd also found this nifty lil rag-" At this he lifted his tail to show off the red scarf "-that I figured I'd give to Rio as a little gift, y'know? But then he snuck up on me, while I was sleeping sir, and... Well, I got scared, sir."
Yazir couldn't contain his laughter at this point, shaking his head vigorously. "Tallahassee, you're a fool. Scared of a tiny cub? Please - Rio couldn't possibly have scared you bad enough to scream."
Tallahassee's face flushed. "I-I didn't scream! I... I was scared."
"Sure you didn't."
