competition: khione is troubled in the wintertime. she feels at home when the snow starts to fall and the world turns white and fluffy, since she was born during the chilly winter months, but something is missing. surely not the snow, since it's falling in heaps; definitely not the wind, since it sweeps past her nose and drops a few snowflakes on top of her muzzle, making her sneeze. ah! the hound's troubles fade as she finds the source of her worries: a small, pink knitted scarf, buried under a few layers of snow but sticking out just enough to reveal its hiding spot. khione managed to lose it every year, and every year she'd misplace it in her thoughts as well. pulling it from the snow and wrapping it around her neck, khione decided that she could finally enjoy the jolly season with her most treasured possession-- though the way she'd come to own the scarf was far from noteworthy, the memories she'd made while wearing it were priceless.

competition winter is tired. she seems to be somewhat excited for wintertime, she enjoys spending time with other dogs and digging in the snow. she likes running around and all, but what she really wants to do is rest. she wants to curl up and nap. forever. just sleeping. she knows that she will have to get up at some point but she could really use a nap. she could nap for ages. sleeping is what she enjoys more than anything else. she would rather stay home and sleep then spend time out in the cold. the snow is wet and cold and gross, why not sleep instead? what is stopping her?
I mean, what is the point of the cold, wet snow if you can’t use it as an excuse? Who in the world would just sit around and enjoy the cold?!? ick...

competition: when winter falls upon the snowy slopes and frostbitten forests of wolfpine, freya is first to the window, her tail waving furiously as she rears onto two legs to place her forepaws on the windowsill and stare out pleadingly. wolfpine is always cold, but winters there are especially so, and freya relishes in the thick crunch of the snow under her boots, sometimes being so excited that she leaps to pull her collar, boots and vest from their hooks and bring them to her handlers, pawing at their chests and grinning excitedly. whenever she and the other dogs are taken outside during the colder months for rescue training, she goes wild, rushing ahead of the handlers and frisking in the thick snow. when they find the live subject she greets them with a lick to the face, playbows, and jumps about, inviting them to play. freya works hard- she just gets a little overexcited.

Winter is Ophelia's favourite season by far and this results in her being way too excitable over the entire winter period. this excitablity peaks in december as she approaches christmas (her favourite holiday). As snow begins to fall and temperatures drop she soends her whole day running through whatever has snow fallen and attempting to build snowmen. However, her excited-ness makes it hard for anyone to hold a normal conversation with her because she can't help but shout how many days are left until christmas to the entire of senegal every five minutes.

Senegal is too tropical to have a winter but visitors to the country consider the area's wet season to be a winter equivalent. It is windier and rainy-- and temperatures drop from 27°C to 20°C.

Butter loves the rain! Her wire coat keeps her warmer than her smooth hound counterparts; a detriment in the heat, but a blessing in the cooler weather. She dances when she is caught out in the rain, jumping and spinning and trying to eat the raindrops landing on her face.

She loves tearing around off-leash and getting soaked and muddy-- much to her handler's resigned annoyance. But she's too cute to really get irritated at. Butter's happiness is directly proportional to how much water and mud she can get on her fur. The hound's playfulness is infectious whenever someone joins her. Other hounds or people end up with muddy pawprints on them if they weren't outright herded or tackled into the nearest puddle. Butter is really sneaky about it, too. New employees to the reserve experience this rite of passage at least once.

Someone sends the rookie out to fetch Butter... and both come in needing a bath!
