hound name: Shadow
coloration: Wired Graying Black with residue white and honey eyes.
sex: Female
age: 10
collar color: navy blue with silver trim
coping with loss: Shadow doesn't cope well with loss. That is until her owner thought of a way to help. With each loss, her owner would get her a stuffed animal for her to cuddle with. That helped for a time but then one loss became so severe the vet said she needed something else. It was getting to the point where she was wasting away. Then one of the mares gave birth to a tiny foal and Shadow went to check on them. The tiny foal helped make her feel better so now everytime she is down and depressed or feeling a loss she goes and plays with the foals and other baby animals at the stables she lives.

coloration: Wired Graying Black with residue white and honey eyes.
    sex: Male
    age: 7 years | 11 months \\ Birthday on December 22
    collar color: Orange stripes
    coping with loss:
Being one of the oldest hounds in the plains, Minzi has learned overtime to deal with loss, as one should. He knows that it is a natural part of life, and without loss, balance would not exist in the world.

Minzi has dealt with the loss aplenty; loss of his friends, loss of a multitude of things that were dear to him, and even objects of smaller significance, loss of time, or patience, or courage. But the hardest loss he has had to deal with was the loss of his mate's litter of pups. Not one of the three little puppies were strong enough to lead long lives, and were lost in the delivery.

After suffering the greatest grief a father could go through, Minzi's life felt like it could no longer be robbed of anything else. He and his mate felt empty, and all they could hold on to was each other. And although he knew that as the would-be mother of the new lives they might've been able to bring into the world, his mate suffered a pain he would never be able to understand, Minzi was certain that he had to be strong and break free of the depressive state he was in.

Eventually, he was able to pick himself back up, and he urged his mate to do the same, being her anchor, and knowing that she would be his. Now they have recovered and are strong members of the pack. He is grateful that he has his mate to keep him secured, as they have gone through things together every step of the way. Life, along with its losses is much more bearable when you've someone who can understand what you're going through and give solace when it is due. Without his mate, Minzi would have no one to help him stand strong. For without her, he would have no reason to stand at all.

Coping with loss:
The moon was bright in the sky announcing night, but not one star was seen. Staring down at the Pond water I could feel my sorrows trying to drown me, yet I feel her presence and her loving temperament staring back at me, comforting me. The wind started to pick up as night started, A Lilly pad cradling a pure white flower starts drifting closer to me. Without thinking, I had already gently placed it into my mouth and started walking to spirts lake. I felt I needed something so It felt more as a “see you later” instead of goodbye.

Spirts river, a river that has been in the pack for many generations but yet no one seemed to have any interest in it. This the first time I had taken a long look at the place... Stunning absolutely stunning is all I can say, the calm water seemed to let off this shimmer Every now and then, and the vegetation seems to have sprouted flowers of all colours. To the point when it was almost impossible to see the shrub in the first place. I was so immersed in the beauty, I didn’t realise that I had already placed the flower into the stream. Watching the flower drift into the distance. I was relieved... I felt like it wasn’t the case of goodbye but of a “See you later alligator”.

The lake became well-known to the pack as “Heaven’s gate”. It was never known where the lake leads to, most believed it was infinite or how such a lake could be as stunning and peaceful as spirts river...
Every time a member was lost,
A ceremony would take place in silence,
When the moon announced night,
A flower cradled in a soft Lilly pad,
Would be placed in the stream.

despite still being young, he is mature, he doesnt let loss get to him. why should he allow it? it would only affect his performance and ability to do what must be done.

hound name: Fay || Leaping With The Frogs
coloration: Wired Graying Black with residue white and honey eyes.
sex: Female
age: 2
collar color: eye colours || brown buckles
coping with loss:

Fay heads over to the nearby pond, it always tends to be flooding with nature and
just life in general, she stares at her wavy reflection, just thinking about how lucky she
is, compared to the others that she's lost. She stares at the leaping, go-lucky frogs,
big beady eyes, a desaturated green tone with tiny speckles of black and brown.

After a bit of thinking, she always decides to hop in the murky body of water, pushing
through the thick stems of lilypads and hopping through the rocks, settled across the shallow
bottom of the pond.

After the dreamy days of trotting and leaping about with the frogs, she's called for dinner.
In a mopey motion, she heads over to the Thrashing Waters Pound, knowing that tomorrow,
will be a new, and better day.

hound name: Smooth like Smoke [Smoke]
coloration: Wired Graying Black with residue white and honey eyes.
sex: Female
age: 7 years
collar color: medium value leather with a silver buckle, please~
coping with loss:

It was hard for everyone when Obi passed away suddenly during his shift. Mid-work, of a heart attack. His two hounds were with him, Smoke and King. It was Smoke's howling that allowed them to be found relatively quickly. King's heart was clearly broken. Smoke was frantic, as she was only two at the time when her handler died.

Adelaide, another handler at the reserve, took both hounds into her own pack. There was no way a working dog like Smoke and King could easily transition to another employment opportunity right after such tragedy. Everyone was worried about King dying from heartbreak-- not Smoke, though. Smoke took a different turn...

She started exhibiting neurotic behaviors such as licking her paws raw, obsessive tail chasing and howling, pacing until she was physically too exhausted to move, and pica-- mostly eating rocks. It got to the point when Adelaide couldn't bring Smoke out with her to work on the reserve, as the hound's behavior was stirring up the other dogs and causing disturbances with the sanctuary animals.

Julian was the one who helped Smoke cope with her handler's loss. Obi had trained her well in tracking and high levels of obedience-- but she didn't know agility. Smoke was new to the entire concept of doing obstacle courses like jumps, the wobble board, and the A-frame. The first time Julian brought her to an agility field it was on his day off, about an hour out from the reserve's main entrance.

The long drive was worth it.

Smoke spent her first experience on the agility field barking at the equipment and running crazed circles around everything. Julian had sat in the middle of the field and watched her figure it out. The weekend after that, he had her try out the platform and the low jumps. After a few weeks, Smoke started to look forward to her weekend outings with Julian. She became calm and focused on the field, graduating to be able to weave through the poles, jump through the hoop, and run across the A-frame.

That Christmas, the reserves' employees pooled a portion of all their bonuses to install an agility field at the reserve. Smoke and Julian were delighted. Time helped Smoke's grief, of course, but giving her a new love was vital to her recovery. Now, Smoke helps hounds and pups new to agility become more confident and learn to love the obstacles as much as she does.
