𝓐𝓷𝓭 𝓱𝓸𝔀, 𝓹𝓻𝓪𝔂 𝓽𝓮𝓵𝓵, 𝓭𝓲𝓭 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓰𝓮𝓽 𝔂𝓸𝓾𝓻 𝓼𝓬𝓪𝓻𝓼 ?
Dapperheid, a name meaning bravery.
She'd been raised her whole life on the plains, earning a reputation for being stubborn with her handlers and with her pack. It took time and great patience to deal with Dapperheid, but her strength and potential were so great that her main handler, Ayodele, refused to give up on her. And he had been right not to.
Out on the field, she would be stern and serious, knowing how much the order and balance meant to the grasslands. Working alongside her handler, she followed, although at times would try to do things on her own, dismissing Ayodele's orders and calls. It took a long time of training and trusting the man for her to start listening. But once she did, the bond had been set.
It wasn't long until the two had become close enough to communicate effectively with just subtle signals and calls. Others would admire and praise Ayodele and Dapperheid for their work, and congratulating the man who helped bring his companion's potential out into the world. They were inseparable, eventually becoming so close that the young dam, aged two at the time would sleep in her own little bed that Ayodele had bought for her in his quarters.
One day, after guiding a particularly restless herd of zebras to their grazing area, the two discovered the source of anxiety for the equines. They had been tracked down by a group of hyenas, that even Dapperheid did not notice until it had been too late. There were too many for them to hold off, and neither dog nor master had expected to find the hyenas hungry on such a day. They called for backup and stalled as long as they could- Ayodele sending out clicks with his tongue and a low whistle that Dapperheid understood perfectly. She stood tall and did her best to intimidate the carnivores with her stature. All seemed well in the beginning, until they approached her master as he radioed for backup.
They were on him in an instant, and Dapperheid rushed to his aid, flashing teeth and claws. A large female, perhaps the most dominant figure lunged at her and forced her away from the rest of the squabble. The young hound was no match for the full-grown female in terms of weight, but neither her courage nor will faltered in the slightest. She was determined to protect her handler with all she could give. The female hyena gave her a fight, neither one of them backing down from the challenge. She was bitten on the left side of her stomach, given a deep cut by claw on her neck, and nearly blinded with a bite to the face.
Thankfully, backup came quickly enough to scare the hyenas off. And Dapperheid, as well as her master were brought to the medical tents to patch themselves up. Fortunately, Dapperheid wasn't fatally injured in any way, though Ayodele did suffer a nasty bite to the leg, which had fractured a bone quite deeply, and a couple of wounds that would leave scars around his body from being nipped at. He would have to retire from his job as a handler, as his family did not want him involved in any more incidents. But he refused to stay away fully from his companion, returning to visit her when he was available.
Ayodele will always be thankful for the act of fearlessness that his loyal friend had done for him, willing to give her life for his. And Dapperheid will never forget that the scars she wears on her body are a sign of her courage and her love for her closest companion. She has been and always will be known as one of the bravest hounds in the plains, and she is proud of what her name stands for.

Khaose is a puppy at heart even at his age, he knows work is serious business but he loves goofing around more than he would like to admit. The scars get a new story everytime someone asks him. Either he heroically saved a zebra from a pack of lions, either he quotes the infamous Joker monologue until someone figures it out. The truth of the matter is not that remarkable. Khaose has grown up around cheetah cubs. He is a support dog for them, he helped rehabilitate dozens of kits, but of course it came at the cost of a few chase games gone wrong. Khaose doesnt mind. They're a happy memory, each of them a reminder that he has done his job well. And, to be fair, an opportunity to exacerbate their origin.
