Captain is a very work-focused hound, even more so than the breed standard. If he's not working, he's probably sleeping, enjoying the hot sun or the cool shade depending on the time of day. Captain is Adelaide's first hound, gifted to her when she accepted the job protecting the Senegal Reserve. He's been with her through it all-- the long days of training, the poaching raids in the night, the new pups running around like nuts, too young yet to be taken out into the field.

The hound's fear is based on abandonment. Captain knows Adalaide would never abandon him... but it could happen by accident. Running through the brush, tracking an animal-- next thing he knows, Adalaide is dealing with a poacher on her own or some other danger-- and Captain knows she needs help, but he can't tell where she is!

Getting lost out here could kill; Captain wouldn't fault her for returning home before dehydration or the elements get to her. He'll be okay, eventually. But he'll be alone, too far away from the reserve's stations to find his way back. The reserve spans millions of acres. He could wander for weeks and not find his way back to Adelaide... or anyone else.

That is why Captain, when tracking, always makes sure Adelaide is on his tail. So she can hear him and the hound can see her. Just in case.

worst nightmare: This girls worst nightmare is ending up useless. She isn't ever actually useless in our terms, but if she isn't working, she doesn't feel she's of any use and she's just wasting her time or an inconvenience. She's so used to helping carry things into the house, running the cattle. working on agility training, anything but sitting at home being a lapdog. There's other things that accompany her fear of being a couch dog. For example, getting injured and not being able to return to work or ending up an amputee. Getting sick, or becoming too old to work. Joints becoming too painful when working and having to retire early.
She just fears seeing herself of no use any longer.

worst nightmare:

Being one of the youngest hounds to join the pack, Moed was easily one of the most nervous pups they had around. Although she showed great promise, she wasn't used to being out in the field for long, and so would need a lot more training. Moed seemed to shy away from the bigger creatures of the grasslands, never really getting close enough to herd them properly. And unfortunately, some of the bigger, more powerful males would sense her anxiety and take advantage of it, often getting her into trouble with some of the older hounds, as they would have to step in when a stray stallion or wildebeest would come running at them or their herd. It is because of this reason why she's got many scars

Her worst nightmare involves her being injured fatally by one of the larger beasts, and never found by the rest of the pack. She fears that she may never be able to get her nerves under control, but she is determined to be able to prove herself worthy and earn her title along with the rest of her comrades.
