Frist MeetingI was a bit skeptical of Elias. His previous owner had gotten him as a ritten, but didn't want him after he grew to be over 8 and a half feet tall. To my absolute surprise, he was the gentlest skepluvi I had ever come across. He towered over me yet he was so kind and curious that I decided to introduce him to the rest of the scuffle almost immediately. Typically I'll wait a couple of weeks just to allow a bit of a softer introduction, but he seemed very eager and ready to meet everyone else so I let him.
I put
Rosa and
Darwin into a separate pen to start out with because Darwin was easily spooked by new things then turned Elias out into the large pasture.
Apollo, being the drama queen he is, immediately ran over with his feathers flared out and his tail swinging from side to side. Elias took in stride, barely paying attention to the crazy jack. Instead, he focused quite a bit on
Pandora which surprised me. Pandora had had a very traumatic history with jacks because she was used as a breeder so she wasn't very fond of them. It took her what seemed like forever to get used to Apollo, but Elias was different. He approached her very cautiously, almost like he knew what she had been through.
She stood very still with her head down as he walked up to her. Apollo and the others had gotten bored and moved on, but Elias stood with Pandora for a long time. He didn't make any quick movements, only smelling her and gently touching her with his nose every once and a while. She flinched the first couple times, but after a while grew used to him and started to smell him back. It was quite odd to tell you the truth, I'd never seen her take to anybody or anything that quickly.
I returned later that night to check on them and to my surprise, the two were still together, cuddled up on the ground gently grooming each other. It was the first time I'd ever seen Pandora grooming another skepluvia. Elias was so gentle with her, it was truly incredible. The two have been close to inseparable since then and I have to admit that they're the perfect match. Pandora is visibly braver and more calm with Elias around and in turn, she's given him the constant and loyal companion that he seems to have been searching for.
