Skepluvi - 114 - Event 013

Intake Report: Severe Scar Damage Around Neck
"The team was a little stumped to find this queen inside of that shed at first. They were huddled down inside a small crate, with an old weathered collar attached to a heavy chain leash around their neck - the end of it having been blunty cut. Once we pulled the Skepluvi out, they were anxious and timid, but still rather friendly. They showed no signs of having been through any racing or race training yet. Seeing how closely their behavior resembled that of any normal pet Skepluvi, one of the volunteer's had the quick thinking idea to scan the queen for a microchip - a small circuit that is implanted under the skin which allows owners to keep track of lost pets and shelters to archive all the animals that come through their doors. The scanner got a hit right away - number one hundred fourteen, chipped under the care of our very own Skepluvi sanctuary only three months ago. The team was in shock. The head director immediately got on the phone with our sanctuary archivist and got the owner name pulled up - then the news hit us. In the state this Skepluvi was in, covered in sores and a quivering mess of skin and bone, no one had recognized them until the name came up. This was a ritten that our team had recently adopted out to a very beloved supporter and generous donator of the Skepluvias Sanctuary, who had sadly passed away a few weeks ago. When we were notified of his death we had been told that this Skepluvi was left in the good care of a relative per the notes in his will. Evidently, that relative didn't much care for taking on a six hundred pound animal, and had left this poor Skepluvi outside on a chain to rot. We assume this is where the racer troup had gotten ahold of the queen - it was just another case out of many of a stolen pet, ripped away from their families and thrown into the racing industry. For this queen, sitting out there on a chain with an owner that wouldn't bother to take action if they went missing meant they were very easy pickings. Though infuriated by the circumstance, the team knew that the relative would be held legally accountable, and that the Skepluvi would be able to move onto a new life with their new handler in no time. So the veterinary staff got to work removing the embedded collar and chain, and getting their the wounds healed up in no time. Aside from the visible scars around their throat, the biggest issue is the mental effects of having lost their previous beloved human companion in such a tragic way. The Skepluvi is quite timid and has very severe separation anxiety, going so far as to hold grudges toward the staff members who leave them alone for any period of time. This queen can be contentedly cuddling a volunteer one moment, but if said volunteer leaves the paddock even just long enough to grab a bundle of cacti - the queen snaps and becomes furious upon seeing them. They can be very mouthy, but are sadly too head shy at the moment to wear a muzzle yet, which makes them a danger to themselves and others. Their new handler will need to find a way to calm and reassure the young queen and help work through their separation anxiety if there are any hopes of rehabilitating them. They need a kind and gentle hand after all they've been through in just a few short weeks. So it's all up to you now - can you help them?"

Taming Prompt:
After hearing about this queen I decided it would be best to pair her with at least two other Skepluvia, and not to pair her with myself or any other human, yet. This was due to her aggressive behavior when separated, I didn't want anyone at the stables to get injured and at least with other Skepluvia, they would be able to defend themselves from her aggression. I also hoped having another being that understood her language would be less frustrating for her as we progressed with her. So all in all human contact with her would be kept to a minimum, meaning no touching, eye contact, or interaction of any kind. At least until her aggression could be managed.

I decided to pair her with Musk and Pippy, as the pair were very calm, and I hoped it would rub off on Nina. Keeping her with the pair would allow me to remove a Skepluvia and yet not leave her alone. Hopefully doing this will show her that removing a friend was not a scary thing and eventually we would be able to leave her alone, at least for short periods of time.
