Show Name: ARR Mind's Eye
Barn Name: Mesa
Age: 7 years
Discipline: 3 Day Eventing
Halter: Eye color + silver metal
Competition: Mesa was never meant to be a racer.
From day one, she showed the utmost grace and control, perfect for dressage. Her training came early, and she excelled as they went through ground manners, simple maneuvers, and lounge lines, all before her third year came around. She then began to show energy, fire... She began jumping pasture fences, though only to visit her mother and friends three pastures over, and it only took a few times catching her in the act to see a natural talent there, too. So they tested her on both show jumping and cross country courses as she came of age, and Mesa more than proved herself as a jack of all trades. Her training went flawlessly, and in her very first competition she took the blue ribbon. That was only the first of many, many wins.
By the time it came for the farm to sell her, Mesa was still in her prime and ready to ride. She was eventually purchased by a young entrepreneur who was seeking horses to start up his stable; he was young and reckless, a trust fund baby with no real clue what it took to run a successful competition and stud farm. He obviously had more money than sense, but even more determination, and he eventually pressured her owners into selling Mesa to him for quite a good sum of money. While buying her was not one, he would make many, many more mistakes in the near future.
Growing up with a silver spoon in his mouth, the man had many vices and next to no responsibilities. If not for his stable manager setting aside money for the horses, the owner would have gambled away all of his money and left nothing for the care of all of the new horses he'd purchased. The manager, Clarence, kept the stable running semi-smoothly, working hard to keep all of the horses cared for, staff paid, and competitions won; and for awhile, he succeeded. But, while out at one of his parties, he found himself in a poker match with the owner of Fallen Oak Farms. Too inebriated to see his error and too prideful to admit his losing, the stable owner was lured into a trap: betting his prized Euphorian mare Mesa to stay in the poker match. In the end, the F.O.F. owner won the hand, and the man was devastated. Despite his irresponsibility, he'd truly loved Mesa, and losing her was the push he needed to sober up and learn how to do things right. It was just too late.
Though she was normally a brave mare and always up for a new adventure, there was something harrowing about the drive up to her new stable. It didn't feel right, and the owner honestly gave her a sick feeling in her stomach. It was almost instantly that she went from a posh, loved lifestyle to one where she was nothing more than a tool to produce foals. She missed competing and training and being ridden, and she lost 2 years of her prime to the misery of that run down old farm.
