After having a Neravontii ranch for so long, I was excited to hear about a new species from the same place. I found my way to the adoption agency the first free day I could arrange. As I approached the building, there seemed to be quite a lot of activity. Apparently I wasn't the only one that was curious.
The first difference I noticed was the sound. A cacophony of squeals, snorts and such struck me with nearly a physical force as I walked through the doorway. Nera ware hardly silent, (especially around feeding time), but this was a bit disconcerting. I was trying to get my bearings when I noticed a great deal of activity in a large corral to my left. People were carefully herding 6 or 8 Tephlan off of a truck and in to the enclosure. Turned out that they were bringing in a newly imported herd. As I browsed the pens, the decibel level reduced to a reasonable level, either that or I had already begun to lose some of my hearing. Relaxing a bit, I started reading the cards on the gates and more closely examining the creatures.
Of course I had seen the photos in the brochure but it wasn't possible to be prepared for the adorableness of that trunk. It wriggled, twitched and generally begged to be played with. When I realized I was planing where the best place would be to build new quarters on my ranch, I finally admitted to myself I was hooked. The biggest problem I could see is making sure the Nera NEVER know I have the Tephlan, and vis-a-versa.I mean, logic dictates, one is a carnivore and the other primarily an herbivore. Odds were pretty good any Nera would consider my potential new friend lunch on the cloven hooves. As I pondered the logistics of this, I felt a gloriously squishy, slightly damp something prodding my arm. I'd been leaning on a fence rail without a though to it's occupant. (A lapse that may have been fatal at the Nera facility.) Turning to look, I found myself face to face with a handsome grey and white Tephlan. As I held out my hand, the trunk snuffled around, investigating to see if I had treats. Determining no snacks were forthcoming, he wrapped it around my wrist sociably and let go. Soon I was stroking his broad face and calling an attendant. I guess I had better hurry up my building plans because I'd need the room sooner rather than later.
