Personality
Busy is a super bubbly and happy partner. When he was younger he was super energetic and excitable (sooooo much drool), but since then he has become quite laid back and lazy. One of his favorite things to do on a hot summer day is stretch out on a nice sunning rock to soak up the rays.
He is very paternal and commits completely to the wellbeing of the scuffle and its rittens. Mr.B absolutely adores the babies, and is with them 24/7. He raises orphaned rittens alongside his own as needed, but that is quite rare. The only thing that will get him away from his babies for longer than a second is the offer of a fresh pear. This offering will get you one ride, though you better be fast tacking him up while he's distracted. Once in a while you can get a long leisurely ride out of him when a Jack he trusts is taking care of the rittens, but he is very picky! Asterisk is currently undergoing what seems to be some fatherly training under Busy, and the feathers really go flying when he makes a mistake! Due to his laziness, Busy isn't a good choice for new riders or children as he can be very stubborn and just refuse to move, which can be a real pain! Tacking Prompts:
"First Meeting"
I didn't know much about Skepluvi's-- I had seen them in movies, on social media, everywhere but right in front of me. It wasn't an ignorance of my choice, I had grown up in a big suburban area, no farms or sanctuaries for miles. The only time I passed any sort of animal other than a dog, cat or occasional squirrel, was the quick drive to work and back, which only resulted in seeing a giant herd of longhorns. (Not that I dont think they're cute!)
One day after work, I had come home to a letter sitting on the counter amongst the various bills and spam. This was unusual, so I was quick to open it and grin with glee the second I read the words. I had gotten into the summer-long Skepluvi introduction course run through an out-of-state college. The purpose of the course being to teach those like me the ways to tame, train and keep the creatures.
I swear I didn't sleep the whole week before I was due to ship out, excitement rolling through my mind and stomach day after day. Everything felt so surreal the day I left, I barely remember it. The airport, the plane, the other airport, and the taxi ride up to the farm. Even getting set up in my bunk left me in a strange dissociation. That was until we were to meet the Skepluvi's we would be working with for the entirety of the program.
He immediately caught my eye as soon as we reached the enclosure, those warm, brown puppy dog eyes, pointing opposing directions. How silly. What was evolution even thinking?
Apparently I caught his eye too, as he traipsed over to me, head held high and confident. This was his turf, and he was going to show me, though I didn't know that quite yet.
I timidly reached out to touch the young animal, my fingers had just brushed the soft fluff of his chest when suddenly -- SPLAT. I immediately drew back my hand in order to wipe the saliva from my face. I heard a triumphant squak from the grey and white Skepluvi, as he did a victory lap around the pen.
That sure was one heck of a way to meet him, but I couldn't be happier.
"First Tacking"
Young Skepluvis are notoriously hard to catch. They enjoy the thrill of being chased around far too much, and give no care to the one relentlessly chasing them around the field. Occasionally, they even taunt their chaser with a wiggle of the tail or a shake of their heads and a "giggle". Today would be the day that I would catch him, even if I had to run us both to exhaustion. I was way behind the other students, almost all of them had tacked up their partners by this point and they were all waiting on me to get on the same level so we could move on with the lesson.
My face burned in embarrassment as I worked to corner my designated Skepluvi, closer... closer. Got him!
Got him? I couldn't believe it! After a brief pause I hurried to wrestle his tack on, which he held still for fairly easily. I couldn't help but beam in pride, admiring how gorgeous he looked in the royal purple and silver outfit. At least, with the muzzle on today wouldn't end with me being covered in spittle like the rest of this week!
He wasn't fighting anymore now, he'd shown me who was boss, and now I'd have to test his patience with me even further.
"First Ride"
Busy was remarkably easy to mount, or at least attempt to, of course I stumbled a bit, being new to the whole experience and only watching someone demonstrate once. Thankfully, the Skepluvi balanced me with his tail, assisting me the rest of the way instead of letting me fall back to the ground. The trust was building in our relationship, as was the respect, I have never felt so bonded to an animal before, even after only two short weeks of working with the species for the first time. It was almost like he knew what I wanted him to do. Though, then again we had fallen to the back of the line as we walked along the fenceline, he was probably just watching the others. Feeling the fluff that brushed against my hands as we moved was lovely, it was almost like it was brushing away all my worries as long as I was on his back. I loosened my white-knuckled grip on the reins to reach out and put my hand to the side of Busy's neck, just to feel the pure muscle moving underneath. These guys were fascinating, and I had definitely found my calling right here.
