Story:
The air was chilly, despite the sun being high and bright for the world. Things were placid in the cooling atmosphere, tranquil and still pleasant enough for those who were not born to cold weather. The day was good.
Until birds moved from their perches, an angry cry breaking the near silent peace. On the ground, a red-maned horse, young with legs still lanky and long, was moved from the mother; said mother was worrying side to side, respectful of the horseman who barred her way but angry as she pinned her ears, kicked at the ground, darted back and forth in a short path, eyes only for her filly. Laughter was heard from the two men with the pair, low and calm, understanding.
And soon enough, the growing filly was returned, unharmed if not a bit shaken. The man who had taken her, even a short distance, had poked and prodded, had looked into her ears, her nose, her mouth... had lifted one leg and taken her knee in hand before moving it this way and that; it had hurt, her knee! But not so bad as times previous.. Still, her head had flown upwards initially, soft snorts breathing from her nose as she tried to pull back. The man had relented, allowing her to flee back to her mother without more fussing.
"She'll be alright, Sam. Was probably just a sprain, shouldn't impede any ability. If it swells up, gimme a call, or if she gets lethargic again." One of the men said, the one who had held the filly. He clapped the other on the back, watching as the mare checked over her filly meticulously. Once satisfied, she looked to the men before snorting, flicking her tail once and steering her little bundle away, into the pasture.
