    prompt:

Spring brings many new beginnings, whether it be baby animals coming into the world and opening their eyes, or the birds and other creatures returning to their summer homes to enjoy the warmer weather as winter’s snow melts away. Arguably, one of the best and most trademarked things about spring is the flowers and endless expands of new plant life it creates each year. Of these, there are millions of species, such as perennials, grasses, new tree sprouts, and many types of famous annual wildflowers.

Everyone has favorites, and for cows, the choice can be even more difficult. While we humans only have to look at them or smell them to decipher, livestock also have the option of finding which is the tastiest of them all. In Kitty’s case, she likes to be a connoisseur, destroying gardens and being a flower menace as she attempts to find the best tasting flower. Every year its been something different, as she makes her way down the stepping stones of life to reach her goal of finding the most delicious flower.

It’s been a rain-heavy winter and early spring, and thus, the selections are a bit different this year. All the usuals are here; tulips, poppies, the occasional blue bonnet, but there are newcomers too. Reeds and damianita daisies, mosses creeping along stones, and most peculiar of all, tall, thick stemmed plants that sway by the trickling creekside. White flowers grace its top, with weird feelers that Kitty notices look almost like arms. She wanders closer, and wonders if they'll taste like the arms are reaching for her to give her a warm and wonderful hug, or a pinch.

They seem harmless, but once she attempts to take a bite, she quickly finds out why the deer have spared them thus far in the season. The stem is thick, glossy, and tastes like plastic. There are tiny thorns on the ground around them, too, which prod and prick at her soft wet nose. She spits it out, and backs off, squinting her light eyes at these white villains taking up residence in her field. She must come up with a plan of attack.

While consulting with Tea later in the evening at feeding time, she learns these flowers are called Spider Lilies. A fitting name, Kitty sneers. Not many people love spiders, and these look just like them! Plus, she assumes they likely both taste the same; absolutely horrible.

    ---

The next day, she gets to work. Approaching the weird intruders again, she prepares herself for battle. Meticulously, and with a wild determination that Tea will never understand, Kitty picks off every little thorn she can from a single stem, until she rids it of it’s defenses. However, when it comes time for the final blow to the plant’s creepy flower, she cant seem to bring herself put it in her mouth. She’s almost grown fond of the way the weird flower sways in the breeze, like it’s tentacles are dancing in the air, or like a skinny starfish blowing across the ocean’s floor.

Instead of a dramatic tale of her bravery and perseverance only to come to the finale of finding out whether these spider lillies are delicious or are truly the most disgusting plant in the field, Kitty shows Tea her new hostage. The spider lily sits tucked into her collar, comfortably nestled into it’s leather hold now that it’s thorns have been removed. Tea rolls her eyes and yawns as Kitty tells her about the hours she spent ‘freeing’ this little flower from the creekside home it lived in, even though Kitty makes it seem more like an epic battle. Tea wonders if Kitty knows the flower will be dead and wilted by a couple days from now, but decides to save that information, lest she wants Kitty thinking that Tea spies for these spidery enemies. For now, Kitty is content telling her tale to anyone that will sit through it, and she loves to hear them say the flower’s white matches her eyes.

decided to try to make an adopt to calm me down. it helped a little.
hope you all like this lil grey-eyed cutie.

And you yourself shall keep the key of it"

prompt:

One hoof after the other. It's going to be okay, just keep going, don't look back.

Run. She did not want to, however she was left with no other choice, lest she meet the furious wrath of whom she thought would protect her most. This was the first time she had run away, and Ophelia had become overwhelmed with a sense of dread that he was following. So she kept running.
She tried to stay, through the screaming, the tears, the glares. But there is only so much a woman can take before her walls crash and burn like the fire in his eyes when he got angry.

She had run long enough and finally slowed to a walk, breath ragged and face soaked with tears. She did not know where she was or where she was going, but an adventure sounded like heaven. She looked to the sky and its blanket of stars, the forest illuminated in the glow of fireflies. She was left breathless as she followed them as they wove through the night, until she was graced by the light of a small barn.

It was there that Ophelia found something she never thought she would.

Release.

collar color: Inspired by a blue jay feather

prompt:
Skye often thought about how tough life would get ever since her grandfather passed. She would always find herself searching for him during the sweetest moments, during her biggest successes. Nothing would ever bring him back, and she knew that. It never stopped her from longing for his presence to return.

Ever since his passing, Skye made an odd discovery. Many beautiful, brightly colored birds would come visit her home. Her favorite were the bright feathered blue jays. She loved looking out the window to be greeting by their chirps and graceful flight patterns. For awhile, she simply thought of it as an odd coincidence. She just assumed she was more disconnected from other cows, and found comfort in the calmness of nature. Soon, she started to notice a pattern.

Every time Skye found herself searching for her beloved grandfather, these birds would appear in greater numbers and in closer proximity. They were a sign that he was still there and watching over her. Symbols of love during her greatest triumphs and comfort in her darkest hours.

There was one day that was particularly tough. To clear her mind, Skye decided to go for a hike down her favorite nature trail. She was almost searching for the birds as she walked through the tree line, searching for the extra comfort. She sighed after awhile without seeing any, but as she was nearing the end of the trail, she heard rustling in the branches above her head. Out darts a blue jay, her favorite of the birds. As he flew away, one of his beautiful blue feathers gently flutters down to the ground. Skye rushes over and smiles as she picks it up. She looks up at the clouds with an ever bigger smile, knowing who had left this gift for her. She rushed home and placed the special feather on a shelf, where she could cherish it forever.

username: Honeybears
name: Tulip
gender: heifer
collar color: Green apple green and a gold bell please

prompt: Tulip tread carefully and slowly through the meadow. She held her nose in the air, very still while she walked. The other cows called to her and asked her to come over but she didn't reply and kept walking until she finally made it back to the barn. She went into her stall, which was bedded with soft hay. She carefully nestled herself down and finally allowed her neck to rest. She stared cross-eyed at her nose for most of the afternoon. At sundown, she called for her friends to come and look! A firefly had landed on her nose and was beginning to light up. The other heifers were not as impressed as her but Tulip stared in wonder as it lifted itself into the air off her nose, glowing a beautiful yellow. "I found a star!" she said, as she watched it fly into the sky to join its friends.
