Coriander glanced over his shoulder yet again, eyes uncertain in the flickering light of the temple. Had he seen something? Were they here yet? He had to keep going. The little longneck dashed quickly through the darkened corridor, trying not to make much noise. He was so close, it was almost within reach now; he couldn't let them catch up. He couldn't let them know he was there. Coriander chided himself abruptly as he slipped and bumped his skull into a stone wall. The clattering filled the gloom. He'd lost focus. Hopefully they hadn't heard it. He rounded the last corner and skidded to a stop, looking up in wonder as the narrow hallway suddenly ended and he was showered in moonlight. Here, at the heart of the temple, a small oasis was shielded by high sandstone walls. Large leafy plants grew in tangles. He heard water rushing quietly, though between the dim light and whispering echoes from the enclosed space he couldn't tell where it came from. And there- in the center of the shadowed clearing, a raised platform. A small handful of steps that led to a stone alter. Resting on that alter, he could see it. The item he'd been in such a hurry to find. The Phoenix Amulet.
