One day in the far past, there was a goddess, the goddess of what you ask? Does that matter? She was cursed, cursed to stay in one place forever. To grieve forever till the sun went out. Tsukiko made a grave mistake and now would pay for it forever.
Tsukiko hid behind a big old tree, looking curiously at a human boy about the age of fourteen leave a few red roses at her hokora. The boy came ever week, leaving her red roses every time. Tsukiko wished she could speak to the boy, but she was shy and the boy most likely couldn't see her anyways. Humans couldn't see gods, unless they were younger. Humans lost the sight of the supernatural around three or four and never saw them again. There were rare cases where a human could see the supernatural all their life, Tsukiko was hoping this boy was one of the lucky ones.
One hot summer day, Tsukiko was gathering up her offerings. The boy came up behind her, and put red roses down at the foot of her hokora and sat there, praying for a moment. Tsukiko was surprised by the sudden appearance by the boy, and froze. After a few minutes, the boy didn't speak to her or even look at Tsukiko. Tsukiko curiously came closer slowly, and the boy seemed to be muttering something underneath his breath and then suddenly looked Tsukiko right in the eyes. She jumped, racing back into the woods and hiding behind a tree.
The boy jumped slightly. "I-I'm sorry! I didn't mean to scare you!" He spoke up, standing up from where he was sitting and slowly making his way towards the woods. "I..I didn't know how to greet you... Are you the god of this shrine?" The boy asked.
Tsukiko was surprised, this boy could see the supernatural after all! She spoke up after a moment. "... Yes, I'm the goddess of this shrine." She answered, softly and quietly.
The boy seemed to light up, clapping his hands together. "I was hoping you were! My name is Rei. I was hoping to ask for your blessings."
Tsukiko slowly came out curiously, standing tall. "I'm surprised you can see me, what is it you need a blessing for?" she asked, tilting her head slightly as she looked curiously at the human.
Rei clapped his hands together, happy that the goddess came out to talk to him. "... Well, that's the issue... I can see the supernatural... and once they figure that out... they're all over me. I was hoping you could grant my wish..." he muttered. "I...I don't want to see them anymore.... I...I just want to be normal." he explained, rubbing the back of his head.
Tsukiko blinked, and slowly began to circle the human. This human wanted to get rid of his powers of seeing the supernatural? She then saw it, the reason he could see her. There was a pink tail coming out of his behind. This boy's soul was not tied to him, and was trying to escape. She slowly nodded, tying a soul would be difficult, even dangerous. Tsukiko would need to get to know Rei better to tie his soul to his body. "...I shall grant your wish, but I need to follow you around for about a year before I do so." she spoke.
Rei made a confused face but nodded. "...A whole year...?" He muttered before nodding. "I shall grant you permission."
Tsukiko then began to follow Rei home, getting to know him inside and out. He lived in a small house, with his mother and helped her out when ever he could. She found out Rei's dad was fighting across the sea. Time passed slowly as the goddess followed the human boy around, getting to know him... and Rei got to know her, the two began to form a friendship and Tsukiko began to love the human... not wanting to fulfill his wish. She wanted Rei to talk to her and be her friend forever. If she granted his wish, Rei would forget all about her. But if she didn't, the human would die. His soul wanted to be else where. At the end of the year, they both went back to her shrine.
Tsukiko...Tsukiko couldn't do it. She couldn't fulfill his wish. "...I...I'm sorry Rei...I...I'm sorry." she muttered, starting to break down.
Rei seemed a bit confused. "...Tsukiko what do you mean...? I thought you were going to grant my wish...?" he muttered, suddenly collapsing and falling to his knees. A sense of doom washed over him, and his eyes went wide. "Tsukiko...?"
Tsukiko started to weep as she watched Rei's soul detach it's self from the humans body. The goddess couldn't watch as the human passed away in front of her very own eyes, a thick rose vine starting to wrap around her body. It was a curse, She couldn't fulfill this human's simple wish and now would pay for it. Tsukiko quickly found out that she was tied to Rei's body, once someone found his body. They moved it, and Tsukiko had to follow. If she didn't the rose vines would start digging into her body. She couldn't ever go back to her hokora, she was cursed goddess. Tsukiko was cursed to forever til the sun went out to grieve and remember the one simple wish she couldn't fulfill.

xI waited for you – And waited for you
And made a mistake I can never undo
I now I look back but then I lose track
I spent so much time I can never get back
Could wait forever, but then I won’t learn
That memories fade, no matter how much it hurts
And on the inside, I feel my heart cry
I’m tearing at the walls in the corners of my mind
Wanna tell you just to hold but now, those days are gone
Hold on – I still regret word every word, that day, I never said
I still remember the tangle we were
But in the end, what did we give it up for?
It was something so small, worth nothing at all
But it was my everything and now I’ve lost it all
Ohh … Now I will never get the chance to tell you
