memory: Maple leaves circling down to the earth in lazy loops. Through the leaves that still clung to their branches against the Autumn chill, amber rays of sunlight filtered down to the earth. A thick mane of grass covered the earth, dancing cheerfully as the breeze weaved through their long blades. Hidden amongst the grass, stray leaves twisting down towards by, Artagan sat staring up at the sky, watching the leaves and the wisps of clouds trudging by. Nothing he had seen in all his travels could compare to the beauty of Autumn.
As he sat, a soft sound tickled his ears, steering his attention away from the leaves and clouds. Curious, he followed it, stalking through the grass, trying to block out the sound of the grass whistling against his fur and focus on this mysterious music. It was light, bouncing, and beautifully clear, and as he slunk through the auburn trees and the leaf-covered woodland floor, it grew yet clearer. At last, he broke into a clearing through the trees; a vein of silver-blue light shone brightly enough to make him squint, star-like shimmer glinting off the surface of it. It was a brook, he realised as his eyes adjusted, and the singing he'd heard was its babbling laughter. Here, with the trees, the leaves, the clouds shining in the auburn light and the blue and silver brook slicing through it, more radiant than the sun, Artagan decided he was wrong.
This was the true beauty of Autumn: amber, brown, and shimmering blue.
