Damon has always been an unabashedly blunt do-er rather than any type of deep thinker. That’s not to say he’s slow or stupid, but Damon doesn’t see the logic in hesitating about his decisions. He’s mad at a herdmate, or doesn’t agree with his matriarch’s decision? Oh, he’s sure to make his voice known. He’s looking to explore the stable’s surrounding forests with a buddy or two? Well, if they’re not busy, what’s the use hanging around in the boring pasture all day? They need to get going, there’s only so much light in one day! He operates almost entirely on impulse, so while Damon’s an asset in high-speed training simulations and fast-paced, stressful situations, he becomes a nightmare during strategic planning within the herd with his constant “suggestions” to pick up the pace. He personally doesn’t see the benefit in being cautious for anyone or anything because he believes second-guesses wastes unnecessary time and effort. May as well get it done know, and as soon as physically possible.

Damon’s driven demeanor stems a great deal from his upbringing as a feral horse. While he’s been able to assimilate into his new herd well enough and adores his family like nothing else, his wild tendencies shine through with every reckless decision he makes, whether good or bad. Growing up with only his mother as protection, he’s only been able to survive up until now by not dithering when his survival was on the line. Damon acknowledges that there needs to be a balance of caution and impulse, but he didn’t get himself fed in the wild by getting spooked at everything he came across.

Despite Damon’s sheer aversion to consistent care in his decision-making, his uninhibited nature translates into him almost never going back on his word. He has such a strict moral code about starting what he finishes that he sometimes drives himself to exhaustion for his loved ones, and within his herd his loyalty is nearly unmatched. But, his unshaking dedication comes with a price— his free-spirited nature chafes under strict leadership, and while he loves his herdmates, he frequently finds himself on the fringes in delicate situations, which leads to his opinions being disregarded more often than not. He tries not to let it get to him, but as one of the newest members of the herd, as accepting as they may be, the fact still rankles him something fierce.
