You find this cat stumbling onto your territory, claiming to be a hostage that was kept by the rogues. They weave a story about seeing the leader of the rogues and nearly being killed, but they're scratch-free. Does your clan trust this cat? Why or why not?
You have 800 words to use, plus one art extra or 200 words.
You must pay 8 reputation points to enter this contest, but they will only be deducted if you win.

Sagewhisper's heart stutters under their eyes, he can tell distrust taints his presence here. It's terribly upsetting. He can only earn it, he assures himself, trying to keep a level head about it. He can't honestly blame them, what he told them was a hard pill to swallow. He wouldn't think them right minded if they had just accepted him right away with no suspicion. No, that wasn't right, they had accepted him, he was here after all wasn't he? It was within their code to be respecting and he himself found trouble following such a code but he could see that everyone here honored it truly. In spirit, they were all good cats and they are all pure hearted with good intent, even... even the few who still questioned his integrity. His honesty.

"Of course I don't trust him!" Seastorm yowled, his fur bristling madly, "Who walks into a camp claiming torture and kidnap but bares no scars? There's no way it's true. I'll accept him if he's come for a better life, but I wont believe the lies he spreads about these rogues. They're just trying to intimidate us." Autumnstar looks troubled at his decided judgement, her whiskers twitching as she mulls his opinion, turning to look to Aldertail, "And, you, Aldertail...?" She asks him, voice small. Seastorm knows she's nervous to single him out from the rest of the clan, but the new cat simply wasn't trustworthy yet. "I... can't say for certain. I don't think many are ready to trust him just yet. He should remain apart from our plans... as much as it pains you to do such a thing, Autumnstar, but it's for the clan. He may have inside knowledge, but he doesn't seem to intend to share it. So we should wait until he is more open before we are open to him completely. Until then... he should be treated as any warrior in our clan. With respect." Autumnstar nodded, and for once Seastorm could agree with Aldertail's words. It was fair, after all.

"State your name!" Hissed Basilstar, his back and tail fur rising to it's tips. His patience had been running thin lately, obviously tired of cats waltzing into MossClan territory.
"M-my name?" The thick furred she-cat mewed quietly, her fear scent tainting the dirt clearing where she had been caught.
"My name is C-Clover.." Clover's eyes darted around the clearing, her heart thumping heavily in her chest as she attempted to find a way to escape. She had to return back to the rouge camp before they suspected something.
"Please let me go! I already told you, I had to escape them!"
Basilstar cried out a deep, angry yowl to silence her before speaking.
"You haven't any scars rouge! Not a single scratch..." Basilstar stalked closer over to Clover, eyeing her every shiver. The tom's light blue eyes scanned over the young queen's body. There was no trace of blood. No fur torn out. Her face was clean of both blood and scars. Basilstar unsheathed his white claws, preparing himself for a fight. He knew very well that a scared and cornered cat is a very dangerous cat.
After scanning over her body for any signs of a fight, he shifted his body and his gaze.
"Look at me." Commanded Basilstar sharply and began starring into her deep amber eyes.
Oh fox-dung! He's gonna know I lied! Clover let out a small yowl of protest, trying her best to keep her emotions under control. But she no longer could. Her fear was stronger than her lying tongue. And so were her claws. Within a flash, Clover unsheathed her claws and aimed for Basilstar's eyes. The muscly tom hissed furiously and aimed for Clover's large ears before leaping on top of her and pinning her down. Clover was wriggling beneath him, attempting with all her strength to free herself from his piercing grip.
"Oww! Let me go!!" Screamed Clover, her struggling fight growing weaker and weaker.
"Not until you admit what you did!" Basilstar's grumbling voice was thunderous as he stared down at the weakened she-cat.
"Admit what you did." His voice was strict, yet more calm as he stared down at her, his grip still as strong since he first pinned her down.
"I...I don't know what you're talking abo-"
"Liar!" Hissed Basilstar, his claws sinking in deeper. Clover yowled before nodding her head furiously.
"Okay, okay!...I did lie..." Clover mewed with a broken voice, feeling greatly ashamed. Ashamed indeed...only because she got caught.
"Why. Why did you do it?"
"I didn't want you and your..clan?...to attack me..." Clover looked up at the large tom and hissed with annoyance.
"I told the truth...now let me go.."
"I will not. In fact, now you're my prisoner." Hopping off the fluffy she-cat, Clover mewed in protest. She was about to run off before catching a curious look on Basilstar's face. His posture was straight and assuring of his strengths. Right now, he could definitely out run her. Clover sighed and sulked her body behind his.
Basilstar was aware of her contemplation and purred bitterly.
"I'm glad you're not as dumb as you look."

Sugarcane gathered the apprentices of the clan around him after he returned from patrol. He'd been out, alone, while the invaders were in their territory, and acted as though he were breathless as he sat down; yet his eyes were bright and merry.

"Sugarcane! You alright?" Emberpaw asked, his green eyes wide. He was still hurt from the other day one of the rogues startled him, and he hoped Sugarcane hadn't been hurt. However, not a scratch was on him.

"Let me tell you what happened!" The tom said in a low voice, looking from one apprentice, to another in rapid succession. Soon, eight ears were pricked and listening intently.

"They took me hostage my lads and lass!" He exclaimed, suddenly quite loud.
A gasp. Emberpaw muttered. "No way!" While Cinderpaw looked on in disbelief.

"Yes way." Sugarcane argued. "I was out minding me own business, when out of the bushes, a big yellow fellow bustles out, and goes on and drags me to their camp! There were so many twists and turns and he had some of his buddies with him too, it was hard to keep track of where we're going!"

"What did you do?" Quietpaw asked quietly. "How did you escape?"

"Well it sure took awhile, that's why I was gone for so long!" He said with a smirk. "But you know old me, I wasn't about to let them keep me there when my clan needed me, now would I?"

The group shook their heads.

"That big fellow and his buddies dragged me straight on to their leader, and my she was the weirdest cat I ever saw! She had big ol eyes and big ol ears and hair as long as my legs and tail! She squinted and stared at me and wanted me to be executed! But so sirree you can't just execute Sugarcane like that..."

"Of course." Cinderpaw mumbled. He didn't believe a word of it; neither did the others, and Sugarcane knew this, but at least it was exciting!

"How you escape?" Quietpaw and Emberpaw asked again in unison.

"Well they dragged me to another place and tried to tie me up in vines. Said they'd leave me there captive. Yet my claws are very sharp, if I saw so myself... I ripped through those vines like there'd be no tomorrow and took off! I had no clue where I was, but I sniffed my way all the way home, you guys know how good my nose is when I'm after a scent, now don't ya?"

The apprentices nodded. At least that one fact was true.

However, Edgewalker interrupted. He'd overheard the story and sat by the sidelines, giving the newer member a slightly annoyed expression before stalking over, head low and eyes thoughtful. "Telling your tall tales again, Sugarcane?" He mumbled as he sat down near Emberpaw, his bushy tail waving in front of the smaller tom's nose, making him sneeze.

Sugarcane gave a wide, tooth grin and nodded. "Yes I am, but I can be serious too. I was just doing as you asked, Edgewalker; I went out and patrolled the area in perfect stealth. That claim ain't no tall tale and you know it."

Edgewalker nodded slightly, then, noticing Sugarcane make a peculiar and sudden frown, he motioned with his tale for the cat to follow him.

The apprentices bid farewell to the aged tom as he followed Edgewalker out.

"So, Sugarcane." The tom mused, narrowing his eyes and saying in a low voice. "What did you really see of these rogues?"
