While digging through the trash, Percival froze in place as he heard something. As he listened, he noted that the noise was some sort of animal crying, quite near him. He looked up and followed the sound.
Behind one dumpster, he found the source; a reddish colored raccoon got it's leg stuck in an old, thrown out hunter trap. The small creature was struggling to get free with no success.
Percival hesitated, not knowing what to do first. When the raccoon saw him, it stopped making noises and froze. It tried to stay as still as possible, but it was still shaking from the pain.
Hey there...
The raccoon froze as it heard the sound of the large canine's voice.
The maned wolf slowly took a step towards the animal, to which the raccoon tried to back away, only to let out another cry.
Don't worry, I don't wish to hurt you... - Percival said as gently as he could.
His gentle voice seemed to calm the trapped raccoon a bit.
I just want to help you. - he said as he slowly made his way to the trapped animal. The raccoon didn't dare to move or make a sound as the large canine reached it.
Percival grabbed one side of the trap with his mouth, the other he held with his paws. As soon as he managed to open it a bit, the raccoon slipped their leg out of the trap and limped behind the canine as fast as it could.
Percival let go of the trap and turned to the raccoon who was now trying their hardest to climb on the maned wolf.
What's up there, little one? You wanna come with me? - he asked as the raccoon managed to get itself up his back. It seemed like the raccoon said something, but Percival couldn't understand her. - Well okay then! What's your name?
The young raccoon made a sound that was almost fully understandable to the canine. After he repeated it, she nodded like Percival pronounced it just right.
Alright, Cala! Let's go and see if there's anything edible in the forest, I'm starving!

With his new companion on his back, Percival thought he'd pay a visit to the forest at the edge of the city, just to see if there's anything to eat there.
Quietly making his way across the city with his new friend, Cala, the raccoon on his back, he walked silently in the rain, enjoying every moment of it.
They crossed busy roads, met the scared stares of pedestrians and avoided traffic as much as they could. Percival was lost in thoughts. As he saw the stares they got and the eyes of the people, filled with uncertain fear of the large canine, he thought back to the boy in the street. Was he not afraid? - he thought.
He waved at me... No one ever did that before! Who even waves at large wolves like me? - he said. Cala just shrugged, pretending like she knew what he was talking about.
When they reached the forest, the first thing Percival noticed was the leaves. They weren't all green like always; some of them started turning red, others were already brown and one or two have already fallen onto the ground.
It was a small forest, but it could still house some animals like deer, rabbits and some foxes. There should be something here for a chyro to eat.
As they went in, Percival kept sniffing the air and the ground, hoping to catch the scent of a small animal he could catch, while Cala was doing the same.
Several minutes passed and still nothing, but the hungry chyro's determination knows no bounds, so they keep searching.
