Longneck Name: Burton
Longneck Gender: Male
Longneck Personality: he is a very secluded kind of guy, staying mostly hidden in his den, and he's a complete night dweller. He loves the night and will rest during the day and leave only when the sun has completely hidden behind the horizon. He is very isolated as a result, but much prefers to be alone any way.
Short Story About Them:
He is a toymaker. He creates many beautiful toys for the younger longnecks in his forest, but has never revealed himself to be the one who makes them. He stays hidden in his den delicately weaving twigs, grass, roots and leaves to create intricate yet sturdy dolls for the kids in the area.
In the dead of night, he will sneak out with his new batch of toys in a sack and visit each of the other dens, placing each toy down in front of the entrance, before leaving, without so much as a sound nor a note.
The children love the toys he makes. They believe that he is some kind of ethereal being, a faerie of kinds. He's become a legend amongst the children of the forest, and he is happy knowing that his hard work is appreciated.
One night, when delivering his final toy of the batch, he froze as he realised that there was already someone by the den's entrance. One of the children was there. It was a very cold night, so Burton immediately feared for the child's health. He was about to approach her, but stopped himself so as not to frighten her. Being the toy faerie was not the only story the children told about him.
His unusual colours and marking had made him a laughing stock amongst the older longnecks. He couldn't hunt, even at night, so he eventually just avoided being around others in the first place. The older longnecks wanted to keep it that way, and so they started telling their children cautionary tales about him, and now the children feared the night-dwelling, stripe-tailed demon that cannot hunt, and so only eats the one thing he can catch: them.
Making sure his tail was completely hidden from sight behind his toy sack, he cleared his throat and the child turned around.
"Are you okay, kid?" Burton shouted.
She looked to the ground and shook her head. Tears rolled to the end of her skull as she whimpered her story out into Burton's understanding ears. She was failing her hunting training and was worried that she was going to be exiled. Burton comforted her, by telling her his own story. It worked, until she asked,
"What unusual markings?"
All his other stipes were hidden under gloves and cloaks. Burton fought a losing battle with himself before uncurling his tail and showing her. He could see the fear rising in her eyes, and so he quickly reached for the last toy in his sack, and handed it to her.
"Wait, so you're the toy faerie, and the demon?"
Burton laughed. "I'm neither, I make toys and like I said, those older longnecks - your parents - laughed me into hiding and told you kids lies so that I wouldn't come back. But I did, just to make you kids happy, even if you didn't know my name."
The child tilted her head. "What is your name?"
"Burton", he smiled. "Though I think I prefer Toy Faerie."
