blossombelly's mentor, brittlebelly, wasn't always the best tom to
be around. he was irritable and snappy, usually choosing to do patrols
by himself instead of with a group. but nobody could deny that he was
a good, strong warrior. blossombelly was a weak kit. she refused to
leave her mother's side while her littermates went out to play. she
got sick a lot more than the other kits in the nursery. she was scared
of nearly everything. blossombelly's mother was furious when she
was given brittlebelly as a mentor. she tried to talk the leader into
giving her daughter a nicer mentor, one who would be easier on the
weak kit. the leader refused, and it was good that he did.

brittlebelly trained blossombelly hard, sometimes their sessions lasted all day. they always went out on their own patrols and would be
on nearly every hunting patrol. blossombelly quickly gained the muscle her fellow apprentices had and even passed them in training.
a few moons before blossombelly earned her warrior name, brittlebelly fell gravely ill. the tom lost the ability to walk and had trouble
breathing. the stubborn tom held on as long as he could, stating that he needed to see his last apprentice earn her name. sadly, brittlebelly
passed on just days before her ceremony. at her warrior ceremony, blossombelly requested to share the same suffix with her deceased
mentor, to honor the tom who taught her to be strong and to never give up.

Coldstar had never encountered a cat so incredibly stubborn, and neither had Emberfeather. Emberpaw, as she was called then, had her opinions on every matter and would argue them until her opponent conceded out of pure exhaustion. The problem was, she was often wrong, but even if she eventually realized this she still yet pushed the conflict. And for the most part, she got away with it, most cats learned not to openly oppose her views and just let her parade around like a mousebrain.

That was, until she was driven out of her old clan by her peers and found her way to GaleClan, meeting her twin as far as stubbornness was concerned. Coldstar had the wisdom and life experience to back him up, but that didn't stop Emberfeather from butting heads with him nearly constantly. She was dismayed when he took her on as an apprentice, rather than assigning her to the push-over Duskheart, but this only made her more ferociously argumentative. She picked fights just to pick fights.

Coldstar was harsh in her training, often keeping her out for suns at a time. At first, the training was purely physical; hunting until she could bring him more than two pieces of fresh-kill at a time and then fighting until their sparring matches ended in a draw more often than not. Of course, Coldstar had size, weight, and experience over her but she learned quickly how to use her smaller stature and speed to her advantage. After that, it was swimming, something she'd never been good at but it was a necessary skill with how many crossing rivers overlapped the paths most traveled in the territory. She was a quick learner, however, and it wasn't long before Coldstar was pleased with how she'd progressed physically. Now, she had to learn not only to not incite conflict, but also avoid it.

Coldstar took her up to the Fallen Shard, pushing her to her limits so that she was exhausted by the time the reached the top of the mountain. There, he sat her down and had a heart to heart with her. They talked through sundown, moon high, until the next sunup. Of course, she started out as per usual; aggressive and headstrong, but as time went on and Coldstar remained calm, talking with her and explaining his views, she began to understand and realize... she agreed with him. She'd been so devoutly loyal to StarClan, so unwilling to break the warrior code, and so incredibly confident that it was this opinion that made her right in all others, it had made her blind to the grey areas. Coldstar valued the safety, loyalty, and love of his clan, his family, so much more than some rules set by cats they never had and never would meet, and she agreed with him. Their arguing turned to an actual conversation, with Emberfeather asking questions and understanding how wrong she'd been in the past. When they returned home, Coldstar held her warrior ceremony as he felt she'd finally matured from apprentice into warrior and deserved her new name to prove it.
