spooky story; he scratched at the walls, his breathing was heavy in desperation.

his 'friends' had teased and pleaded with him enough to make him come to a graveyard with them at night. it was terrifying, being alone amongst tombstones at night, but his companions merely laughed at his fear. they came across a casket that had been dug up in this graveyard, and, while duffy was curiously peeking at what was inside, one of his friends had pushed him inside. before he could even react, the lid was shut on him, blocking what little moonlight there was out.

his first instinct was to scream. he flailed and kicked wildly at the inside of the casket as he yelled, begging, pleading for someone to open it up and let him out. he began to calm eventually, being reduced to uncontrollable trembling after his andrenaline had run out. his breathing was fast and harsh as tears rolled down his cheeks. i have to get out of here, he thought, before hesitantly pushing at the top of the casket in hopes that it would open up. there was a bit of movement from the lid, so he pressed harder and slowly managed to open the casket.

the silence after the casket was opened was what stunned him first. he was sure that they would be nearby, still laughing from their prank, but there was only the sound of wind. they must have run off, he realized with a frown. Suddenly, he saw a form in the fog. "hey, wait!" he yelled, clambering out of the casket to run after them. hopefully it was one of them coming to check on him. what he saw, however, was a slightly glowing creature. he nearly screamed at the sight! it's form was partially transparent like a ghost and it's body was bent and twisted in a disturbing manor. it's face was...undescribable, really, yet somehow just bordering on not being fully grotesque.

"child, come closer..." it murmurred, voice honeyed. it was rather odd coming from such a creature. duffy was too afraid to argue, and his legs were far too jelly to run any great distance, so he carefully walked closer.

"dear child, what is your name?" it questioned as soon as he stood in front of him. he trembled in front of the creature for a few moments before answering. "m-my name is duffy. u-um, what's yours?"

the creature looked like it was almost smiling. the pieces weren't all quite there, but it was close enough for it to be assumed."how wonderful. i saw what happened with your friends, duffy," it began, its smile fading into what could be a serious expression. "i can promise you they'll never hurt you again." it crooned in an almost protective manner.

a chill ran down his spine at it's words. "what do you mean?" he whispered, both curious and afraid. what had this thing done?!

it laughed, a far warmer sound than what it should have been. "they are fine," it replied dismissively, almost as if it had known what he had feared. "if you let me come with you i can keep you safe. i will protect you from what you fear. i will be like...a guardian angel of sorts."

duffy, admittedly, liked the sound of that. despite how creepy this creature was, it seemed nice, almost friendly, and he could feel his guard dropping as the seconds ticked by. he knew he was afraid of many things, and if there was someone by his side at all times that would protect him from those things, then he knew he would feel safe.

"what do you think, child? do you accept?" it asked, reaching a twisted hand out. he only hesitated a moment before grasping the hand as best he could. "i accept."

that was all it took for the ground around them to begin to shake. the creature spoke in a strange language, all the while smiling widely at him. after a few moments, his vision went black. when he came too, he was still standing where he had been. the only difference now, was a weird feeling in his chest that began to spread over his body like something was adjusting to a new space it had acquired.

he felt his own face smile without him doing so, and a shiver went up his spine.

"hello duffy, let's begin."

      spooky story;
        "it's not my fault they died!" donovan protested, standing over the grave of his parents. next to him stood a magnificent creature, red and flaming- literally. the creature bared his fangs, which caused donovan to take a few steps back, ears pinned to his head. it wasn't really advised that you mess with the devil, but donovan liked taking... risks. of course, like always, said risks always got him into major trouble, so perhaps that was why he was now a few tail-lengths away from the ruler of the underworld. now, said ruler might not be the nicest overlord, but he was damn hilarious with his sarcasm.
        "you're a good liar, donovan," the creature grumbled, eyes fixing on the multicoloured itty bitty. donovan shrugged, taking as a compliment. really, anything that the prince of darkness said was a compliment, as normally, he didn't speak.
        "i really do try my best, sir," responded donovan, eyes sparkling with mischeif. now, it's not like he wanted to kill his parents, rather, he just felt the urge to. donovan had been dealing with these urges ever since he was a kit, and he cut his best friend's little brother's paw off- again, on accident. donovan glanced up to the hellish creature. "tell me, sir, what happens now?" the devil shrugged.
        "since you failed to die when i attempted to kill you, it seems that you must be immortal. therefore, i will take you down under with me, where you will work as my personal servant. i assume you know your way around sin, you're practically made of it." the demon rumbled, turning to the grave. "come now, donovan. we have a lot of work to do."
