Show Name: HG The River Calls Her
Barn Name: Vatn ('water')
Gender: Mare
Story: The filly shook slightly, watching as her mother called at her from the middle of the rushing stream. The murky, foaming, pale blue water was daunting. Freezing spray stung her face as she balked along the bank, wobbling on the rocks and pebbles that clacked lightly under her hooves. Her mother's call was tempting, promising warmth and safety, but the icy jaws of the river called out something else. Danger. She squealed at her mother, begging the mare to come back, but only got the same encouraging response as before. Faced with being stuck along on the bank, she looked back at the fields where she had been born, then snapped her head back towards her mother. With the decision now thoroughly clear in her mind, the filly backed up a bit. She launched herself into the water a bit more dramatically than was necessary, leaping with all her might to get close to her mother. A shriek escaped her when she landed, her knees immediately buckling under the force of the current. The filly was tugged under the belly-deep water, fighting to get back up for a few moments until help arrived. Her mother, only a few feet away, gave the little one something to brace herself against as she fought her way back upright.
Shivering and thoroughly soaked, the filly made her way to the other side using her mother as a crutch. She pressed close to the mare's warm flank, fluffy with her thick winter coat. Once on dry land again, she huddled closer under her mother, letting the mare gently lick the freezing water from her slight frame. She trembled and shivered until dry enough to feel warm again. At that, she shook herself out, coat fluffing up slightly as she followed her mother into the fields beyond.
