Second Chance Shelter is a dog and cat rescue where you can come to find a new member of your family. We rescue and rehabilitate dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes so they may have the chance to be placed into a caring home. it wasn't nice
He was near a year old, maybe a little over a year, when the Man and the Woman finally allowed him into the barn for the first time. He stepped inside, pleased to be with them and in a new place, and walked with them past the few stalls and towards a big, open space. That's where he saw her for the first time, noticing movement from the corner of his eye...He whipped his head about, thinking a stray cat or a fox had gotten in, coming face to face with a skinny and irritated looking coyote.
She had light brown eyes, which seemed to bore holes into his soul, and he took notice of the tight collar and thick chain keeping her in place and allowing her little room to move about. She bore her teeth at the humans as they spoke, and the only words he understood were "breeding" and "fight". He didn't like "fight"...As a result, he gave a tiny growl he didn't mean to, and the Man gave a sharp word and yank of the leash.
Seeing the female several more times, he came to learn the Human couple were not nice people...

He was taken in, a bit later, by the wildlife rescue that took Hanae, the coyote.
His favorite treat is milkbones with a small bit of peanut butter, and a few pieces of Bil Jak.
He made friends with Hanae recently.
Hanae was rescued first, brought to a vet for wildlife to be looked at then taken to an overnight place to rest. The family that ran the wildlife rescue and rehab, were quick to make an offer to take Hanae, and being respectable and trustworthy, they were awarded the coyote. Perhaps it's more right to say Hanae was taken to the van first, as Max was also taken from the couple at the same time. Max was taken straight to a nearby rescue, SCS, where he was looked over and judged to be alright. He was already two, or so they guessed, before anyone called about the coyote and Max. He was in the rescue for a while, until the family who took Hanae heard about him from friends, and found out he'd come from the same place. They came to see him, and immediately fell in love.
Personality:
Maximus, as the name may imply, has a huge amount of love and friendship to give, once you've 'unlocked' his heart, so to speak. Once he's seen he can trust you, he is the sweetest, silliest, most fun loving and affectionate guy ever. He still is leery of humans he does not know, of course. The family found out he really enjoys the water, and of course he loves to run and to go on walks on the trails in the Sanctuary, and forest trails.
How they earned his trust:
Well, the fact they took in Hanae didn't hurt. Seeing them working so hard to help her, and earn her trust even helped a little. Jack, the father, would sit and watch tv, not reaching to touch Maxi but speaking to him when he knew he was in the room. The other father, Jodie, noticed how curious Maxi seemed when he found him in the kitchen. When Maxi would come to investigate, he'd toss bits of meats behind him, to Maxi, and talk to him in a softened and calm voice. As the previous owners didn't have kids, Maxi never once viewed Shiloh or Jordan as a threat, and in fact the girls were the first he showed true trust and affection to. All these things combined, after awhile, added up, and along with seeing how happy the girls were with their fathers, the love and trust there, they were able to get past his walls.
