RVEC #258 - Gold Champagne Banker Horse

Postby SydneyandStorm » Sat Aug 26, 2017 10:55 am

Oh look, a sun cx

This girl can be any breed of horse so long as champagne has been observed in the breed (not just allowed in the registry). Otherwise, knock yourself out cx To win her, describe the sun in a reallyyyyyyy roundabout way. I'll be judging this on the 29th and the most creative description wins!

Describe the sun:

to the island horses, the light dictated life.
in the early haze of the day, somewhere between the breaking of the light over the far-off horizon and the first touches of warmth on their withers, the hungry, tumbling ocean receded, revealing long swaths of sand soon to be pockmarked by hooves. later, when painful rays turned black hairs into hot coals and pink skin into red, raw blisters, the waves would return to wash away the evidence of their presence. by this time, though, the herds were already seeking refuge from the overpowering beams in the rocky crags, pupils drawn into slits as they sought patches of green through the haze of day.
in the night, foraging became less of a chore and more of a pastime; the trucks and tourists went away (humans, as far as the horses knew, avoided the loss of sunlight instead of basking in the cool breezes and improved visibility, for whatever reason) and the shine of the nearby glow from above faded, remaining light coming from the faraway flickers on the mainland (presumably where the humans go). when the rains and storms would return after weeks of heat, the horses would rub off their rapidly sloughing summer coats on branches and strip their island of the remaining scraps of grass, and the overwhelming bright spotlight above would come less often and for less time. no horse knew what sort of being might control this light, and not one minded. the light, while it burned the faces of foals and blinded the elderly ponies, brought the sea, and with it the wind and the rain, which would bring the grass and the trees; things the horses didn't necessarily understand. what they knew, simply, was that the burning blaze, like their environment and their fellow horses, guided them around the island and thus protected them.
the humans crowded the beach in unprecedented numbers when the shadows fell far too early. it simply wasn't cool enough for night to fall so soon, and yet the darkness washed over the island like the tide over the sand. a cheer went up when the darkness fell. and for a moment, the horses paused. the humans stared upwards, ignoring the basic animal instinct to avert one's eyes from whatever might loom above, captivated. for a brief second, they pondered the humans and the darkness and the light.
and then life continued on.

*while any color is permitted in banker horses, i could not find any information on which colors are expressed within the breed. if you would like the breed changed, i'd like her to be a mustang, please.

Congrats, caf.! I loved this story, you write so well and described everything so beautifully <33 I couldn't find anything witnessing champagne in Banker Horses either but since they share ancestry with a breed that does have champagne, I'll allow her to stay as one c: Hope you enjoy her!
