why are they late? He stopped to admire some lovely roses, then got carried away, forgetting what he was doing. He sat down next to the beautiful bush and read a book. Then... he realized what he'd actually done, and panicked.

why are they late?

Why is the key word to this question.
Why is something even Kipper doesn't truly know.
Why exactly is there a need to be on time for simple events?
Kipper searches for these answers on a daily basis as he casually runs late
for nearly everything he initially signs up for.

As day turns to night, and night into day, Kipper finds himself always neck deep within a dream.
Being a dream found within rest or a dream of the day, there is no real sense of reality for this young babu.
He doesn't truly feel as if where he is in his physical state is where he truly belongs which in turn leads to him being rather forgetful.
Being born purely white in a world full of color could possibly be to blame, but then again, it might not be.
His curiosity has always got the best of him.

He gets distracted fairly easily, which is also part of the problem he has with tardniess.
He'll be focused upon one task for at least 5 minutes and then he'll stumble upon a random object and stare at it for nearly an hour. Kipper is not entirely sure if his short attention span will ever end, or if he'll ever make it to any event on time, but he surely is in no rush to fix that

Hello again journal, it seems as if we are meeting once again. For it seems like only yesterday I purchased you from the store when I was supposed to be going to the grand tea party ordered by his lordship. Not sure why he feels the need to host a party every two hours but that's all on him.

While on my way to my luch date with a rather peculiar fellow I stumbled upon the most magnificent of objects. It is rather rust,
and needs a good polish but it'll have to do for now. It was a spring! Probably the last spring I'll need for my project, that is ever I ever get around to it. I'm always late with starting on appropriate dates. It's a rather bad hobby that needs to be broken, I'm just...in a slump as I don't even know where to begin.

was too busy admiring the wonderful flora and fauna surrounding him, when he took one look at his pocket watch, he quickly realized how late he was and began to panic!

Why Are They Late? - Blanca’s pocket watch is a family heirloom, passed on from generation to generation for over a century. Although she is perfectly capable of using a wristwatch, or some other method of telling the time, Blanca has a deep connection with her pocket watch and chooses to use it instead. However, one day a thief snuck into Blanca’s cottage in the forest, stealing various objects. When they crept into her bedroom, spotting the golden watch on Blanca’s bedside table, the thief immediately recognized it as more valuable than anything else in her humble abode. As the thief tiptoed up to the pocket watch and lifted it to their face to examine it further, Blanca’s keen ears picked up on the pocket watch’s chain clinking against itself, and she popped out of bed faster than you could say, “Alice in Wonderland.” As she yanked the watch out of the thief’s hands, the thief falling back onto their back in response, the watch slipped out of her hands and crashed onto the hardwood floor of Blanca’s bedroom. It all happened in slow motion, the watch bounced once, twice, and then lay still on the ground. The thief and Blanca watched intently, the room suddenly feeling very tense. Right as Blanca was sighing in relief, the back of the pocket watch popped off, and springs and gears went flying. The thief fled the scene as Blanca cradled her broken watch, trying desperately to put the gears and springs back where they belong.

The next day, Blanca went to get her watch repaired at the only remaining clock-repair shop in town. With phones and digital clocks taking over and old-fashioned clocks gradually disappearing, the watch-repair shop wasn’t doing too great. Nevertheless, the short old woman who owned the shop was more than happy to repair Blanca’s watch, and informed her that it would be good as new by the same time the next day. Little did Blanca know, as she left the shop, that the old woman was actually a witch who always put a spell on what she sold and repaired. Unfortunately for Blanca, the spell put on her watch wasn’t necessarily a positive one. The clock would forever tell the wrong time, no matter how many times it was repaired. Additionally, the time the watch showed would be different each day, the clock sometimes being an hour ahead, other times being 9 minutes behind. Although this was the reason Blanca was constantly late, and constantly worried over her punctuality, the spell works in an opposite way in Wonderland, where it somehow manages to display the exact correct time, no matter what. But, until Blanca reaches that point, she just has to deal with a faulty pocket watch and the annoyance of never being on time.
