Back to our Around the World event! Now for a close cousin of the Shire: a Clydesdale, Scotland born ^^
For anyone who doesn't know, the Around the World event will have two horses of the same breed from each major region that has made a significant equine breed contribution. Because I will die if I have to make 392 horses for this event, only the regions/countries in which a recognizable breed has been produced will be included; this does not mean your country doesn't count! I just have to keep the horses restricted to the major ones, especially those we don't already have in our sim yet ^^
To win this girl, tell me one difference between Shires and Clydesdales and give her a good name. Best difference and name combination wins! I'll be judging this on February 25th.

Difference:To begin at the submicroscopic level, their genetic makeup is different. Clydesdales are a Scottish origin breed, and Shires are English.

Difference:
Shires have the potential to be bigger with a longer stride, and are mostly black although grey, bay and brown are acceptable. Clydesdales are slightly smaller, and with a more vertical action, usually bay, brown or black, with a lot of roaning apparent and greys

Difference: The reason that they can be difficult to tell apart is because they are bred for similar purposes; Power and Strength. In Shires, their taller stature was prioritized, while the Clydesdale was given higher importance to their flashier way-of-going. Clydesdales and Shires have lengthy histories with interbreeding commonplace. The breeds have influenced each other so much that the Shires now showcase more action in their knees/hocks, and Clydesdales are taller. Conservative coloring is still highly regarded in the Shires whereas Clydes are represented with bolder looks - the sabino gene is prominent. Another interesting fact on the genetic level is that Clydesdales have a gene/or DNA pattern, that produces heavier feathering.

Congrats, OutFoxed! I loved the detail you went into here with the differences and how thorough you were, and the details themselves were quite interesting and well researched ^^

Thank you!
I loved reading up on them - and realized how ignorant I was. The two breeds are so similar and varying. Some users on the forums I used for research said the only way to tell was what was on the papers XD. I also learned that they are often disguised as each other in breed hitches (a clydesdale-y shire will be put in a Clyde four horse hitch if they are in need of a fourth member and vice versa) which I thought was funny.
