[Unhealthy Obsessions]

Kalons-- a species with soft manes and even softer hearts.

Monitored in forests across the globe for years, these animals
have recently been declared naturally tame as well as sapient.
Scientists are asking the general population to consider adopting
Kalons for further study in their capabilities of intelligence.

Ive really been wanting to experiment with colors and lighting and i thought it would be fun to mess with a lot, and so im sorry for whoever wants to order art of them after they win because they are confusing colors. I hope it doesnt run too many people off.

This will be a quicker contest, as i dont have time to judge long things anymore, so for this one, please, give me a name, and id liike to know in under 150 words, or ONE art piece what project they are working on in the forest. Are they building something? Maybe hosting events? Id love to know what it is.

this kalon is in the forest to help create paths for hikers so they don't destroy the forest or hurt the wildlife. He picks up trash, clears way plant debris, and cuts down dead trees that could endanger people. He has also designed solar lanterns to line the trails for night time nature walks as the stars through t he treetops is absolutely beautiful. Also, he hires artists to make signs to go along his paths that warn of any rough terrain, ask for hikers to stay on the path, or provide educational information about the plants and wildlife in the area.

Those who travel through the forest might see a shadow rushing across the pathway. Many disregard it, simply thinking the shadow is a figment of their imagination. The truly observant will notice a girl with long braids, rushing after butterflies with a silk net. If you spoke to the girl, she would innocently say that she is catching butterflies.

"Why?" You ask.
"I'm working on a sanctuary for the endangered species in this forest.
Would you like to see?"

You say yes, and the girl gently takes your hand. She leads you to a
clearing and asks you to close your eyes. You agree, and she guides
you blindly through a curtain of vines.

"Okay, open them." She says softly.

You open your eyes to see a glass dome the size of a house, lit
up with fireflies and covered in a rainbow array of butterflies.

To be in touch with nature, to be completely free of technology, social media, and drama, was her dream. It had started off very small, constantly camping out, snapping photos and learning the names of the wildlife and flora surrounding her. Then she learned their tracks, their calls, and would observe the new life in spring, and the losses in the winter. She became attached to these little critters, and rather than wasting money on camping supplies, she's decided it's time to build her own habitat. It will be eco-friendly, and from this cozy home, she will be able to safely observe the animals, and report on them as needed. Who knew a park ranger could become so immersed in their job? Could hold so much love for the wilderness that, they too, would one day live amongst their little animal friends, free of distraction? That's our little Odette.
