Rescued from the event.
For DragonCave
Background: "This lady is extremely well tempered. We don't know much about her, other than her last owners probably threw her in here because of age. She is past the prime breeding ages, and she does have a slight limp making showing or competitive riding not recommended. We have noticed she has developed a bad habit of chewing on random objects, which was even seen in the auction house when she attempted to grab the mallot as a chew toy. We assume she might have used chewing as a distraction when she received her foot injury, or a sign that something's wrong with her teeth. This should be looked into by the vet as well as worked with before she swallows something she's not supposed to. This darling will make a great companion with a little work, and a keen eye to catch her before she tries to chew on your boots."

Show name: Crimson Copper
Barn name: Penny
Halter color: Dark teal
Task 1:
After what Penny has gone through, it wouldn't be hard to see why she might be not fully trusting of humans. Unfortunately, if she she needs medical attention she'll need to learn to trust first. To start, the best thing for this girl would likely be to have a space away from the main stables. In this quiet environment, Penny will have time to calm down and acclimate to the barn and recognize it as a place of safety. Each time I'd go in to provide care, or refill water or food, there would be some positive thing associated with it. Whether it be a sugar cube, a piece of fruit or vegetable, or a treat like a salt lick, I'd like for Penny to come to think of good thinks coming along with me. As with many animals, trust can also be built with handling. Daily grooming, play, and walking would be party of the care schedule for this doll. Of course, with her limp those activities would be limited to her tolerance. Once I felt that she has some rudimentary trust for me, I'd like to introduce her to the other SWE's of the residence. Preferably, she'd be kept with the older ones like herself. Her seeing me caring for others would hopefully also help her trust me. Lastly, even if these fail- which isn't likely given that she has a positive personality- then time heals all wounds. So combining positive reinforcement, socialization, handling, care, and maybe a bit of spoiling, I would hope that Penny can learn to trust not just me, but others as well. (269 words)
Task 2:
For Penny, the first and foremost concern as far as medical care goes would be her leg or foot injury. If it is causing her to limp, it's likely that there is still pain in the area. To start off, I feel like it would help to have her put on some mild pain medication, and then perhaps have an x-ray done to see more. Optimally, it would be great to have it fixed, but if the injury is an old one, which it likely is, the palliative care would be the best. Range of motion exercises would function to keep the muscles around the injury from seizing up from lack of use, and if needed a brace can be bought to help stabilize the area and for general comfort. Second, I would have her teeth checked out. If her constant chewing is the product of some dental problems, then it would probably be relatively easy to get them fixed. If not, and it's just a habit, then she can hopefully be trained out of it. (176 words)
Task 3:
Finally, once Penny is hopefully back to being happy and healthy, general rehab becomes a priority. For penny this would mainly revolve around becoming (and staying) more active, keeping up with range of motion exercises, stopping her bad habit of chewing everything, and integrating her into a herd. In many ways, some of the things for general rehab would be similar to what was done while finding trust. I'd like to continue introducing her to more SWE, and other animals, to keep her mentally engaged. If she were to have surgery done on either her leg, then general rehab would include walking to help strengthen the leg to prevent it from going bad again from lack of use. If her chewing problem as revealed to be nothing more than a bad habit, likely one she picked up to distract her from her leg, then it would be the best to train her out of it. Providing other forms of "entertainment" would give Penny other ways to occupy herself- without destroying the stables. An itching/scratching post or a ball would be best, since they are both things that would make her use her legs. If she proves to be picky, though, a salt lick or toy that hides treats could also be used. Old habit's die hard, though, and if she won't stop chewing something appropriate for her to chew on would have to be provided. (236 words)
Can't wait to finish the tasks! You did an amazing job on her! Unfortunately my computer is being a brat and doesn't like to let me use the word counter, so progress with be made, albeit slowly.
Edit: I finished the tasks today, but about 4 hours late. I was actually at school when I realized they were due today and I almost had a heart attack ^^' Hopefully I can still keep this cutie <3
