"This mare lived out the first half of her life as a broodmare. She has little to no training, and is older. It's obvious from the scars she bares on her legs that she kicked and thrashed quite a lot, wherever she was kept. She's highstrung and has some very bad habits that went ignored. Things that obviously must have been cute when she was a foal have become dangerous. For instance, she likes to grab wallets from back pockets. That would be cute if she were a baby, but now she's a big girl with big teeth. She also chews her stall door, and its extremely hard to deter her. She knows how to get out of her stall, too. She hates donkeys. She bit a chunk of hair out of her pasture companions mane, which is what her owners said was the last straw, but our volunteers don't think so. We think it was probably an excuse because they no longer wanted the trouble maker. She could very easily pass her habits onto young, impressionable foals, so it would be best to keep her on her own until her attitude is in check. We think it would be better to keep her out of shows because she does like to thrash and kick so much, especially in trailers."

Task 1 - Introduction: I had saw the ad in the newspaper. The SWE was the only one in our small town and word had spread quick that it was for sale. I myself wasn't interested much for I was more focused on completing the final measures to rehabilitate a young colt that had a nasty attitude. His new owners were supposedly picking him up today. Looking back at the ad I read on. It said she was "grumpy on the ground" and "wasn't good with other horses." I let out a chuckle. That meant she was a witch to all living creatures. The rumble of truck made me look up to see the new foal's owners arrive. I hopped out of my chair made my way to the door.

"Morning, come to pick up the colt I assume?" I reached out my hand to shake. A older, weathered man made his way out of the truck, with a younger woman following. His daughter I assumed. "Sure are, mind if we go see him," he said whilst shaking my hand. I gave a quick smile and nodded. "Course not. Let's go see him." I turned around and started walking to the barn. There muffled footsteps followed. "Here he is!" At hearing my voice, a dark chestnut head popped out of the stall, only being able to reach just above the door. He had striking brown eyes with a jagged blaze that ran down his face. I grabbed his halter and opened the door. Automatically he stepped back to give me room. I slipped the halter onto his head and lead him out.

The meeting hadn't lasted more than 25 minutes. After showing them his gaits we discussed a price and agreed. I waved a goodbye as they drove away. Tears pricked at my eyes. I shook my head, I knew he was going to a happy home now. I went back inside the house, not knowing what to do. Usually I would be working with the colt now. I glanced at the ad on the paper that was laying face up. I swiped it and headed back out of the door. This morning I had planned on saying goodbye to the buyers as they left without a new horse to call theirs. But they had done the opposite. I had an empty stall now. The least I could do was fill it with a horse in need. I grabbed my keys off their hook and jogged to my truck throwing open the door and getting in. A SWE was no exception when it came to helping others.
