Monitored in forests across the globe for years, these animals
have recently been declared naturally tame as well as sapient.
Scientists are asking the general population to consider adopting
Kalons for further study in their capabilities of intelligence.

Had a lot of fun with this one. Had certain inspirations that I think shine through. ^^
Timer is off though, oh my gosh. The dogs kept interrupting my sessions.

To win this Kalon, you will have to design a hand fan like the Kalon's shine and explain how the design relates to them.
You will have an option to add on three extras. Limit to 1 art piece or 300 words per extra.

Q.Does a small animation/music video count toward the art extra?
A. If it was made by you or commissioned for you, yes. If you're simply adding a theme song to your form that was made by/for someone else then it does not.

Q. Do we draw and design the fan ourselves?
A. You may either make it yourself or get it commissioned. So long as the design idea comes from your own creativity whether you did the actual art or just provided the concept, it's good to go.

Explanation:
The reason Nerei has a fan is quite simple. She fights with it. However, it is not like every other fan type. A Gunbai is a type of fan the military leaders would use in times of war. Unlike the other fans, gunbai were solid, not folding, and usually made of wood, wood covered with metal, or solid metal.

She uses the fan when she needs to protect something, and mostly it would be her honor that needs protecting. She had found the war fan while cleaning through her, now passed, brother's attic. The fan was an old family heirloom, and got lost within his home.

i had come to realize that my younger self wasn't foolish, but still growing - exactly what she drew. a sapling, growing, forgetting the great expectations my family wanted. even wood and leaves could defeat a dragon and the flames of hell - for it could grow to be the grandest tree. it didn't need to be of legend.
so instead of just tossing the fan since it has ink scrawled all over it - i need to learn to "grow up". the little girl, who was once me, didn't know that she was already "grown". when i look back at it, maybe fate was guiding me to grow to be a large tree, just as on my leg.
i had a dream a while ago that i was in a meadow of ink-black grass, and sitting in the field was me. as a child, of course. she was drawing... and i cannot hate her for being "a girl". i accept that she is a girl, for i am a man now, and i will choose to treat her with kindness and respect.

but for some reason... she was crying.
she kept apologizing for the fan. there was a clean, untouched fan, and she just kept crying. she cried because she couldn't grow - that she "ruined it"; her life, her legacy, her future.

i knew she was growing. that she'd become who she truly was, a man, that she'd carry on the family legacy with not shame, but a new grown honor.
i embraced her.

but i didn't get to ask her this... "do you think i am that tree now?"
