Rescued from the event.
For felis;
.

"This young gelding has put up quite a bit of a fight the whole way through the rescue operation. By the end of the day, anytime something went wrong, the workers would just roll their eyes and say 'there goes that little gulastra trouble maker again' without even having to take a look. He gained quite the name for himself in a very short amount of time due to his insane antics. He has been kicking down fences, nipping other SWEs, spitting at workers, even ramming himself into walls to try and escape. Had any truly wild Sveldala Walkers still existed, we would have thought he had been wild caught. This being said, no one really has any idea what his history is. He had no papers and no previous sellers to vouch for him in any way. He is severely underweight and an absolute mess of briars and muck, so we do know that wherever he had been wasn't a loving home by any means. But other than that he is an enigma."

Task 1

Postby gull. » Mon Jan 02, 2017 8:46 am

Task 1:

The day I came to the auctions I knew I wanted to save a horse from the awful fate that they currently faced. But, I didn't have much of an idea of what I wanted. I walked into the auction with an open mind, and it surely helped. There were a few I'd seen that were pretty, but they were snapped up quick just as I had anticipated. I was growing a little forlorn, thinking that I wouldn't find an SWE to save. But then I heard a shrill whinny, and a black ball of energy flew into the arena, nearly dragging his handler behind him. He was muddy and his mane and tail looked molded into place by how many burrs were tangled throughout it. He kicked, reared, and bucked furiously. It seemed almost like he was putting on a performance, like a bucking bronco. But no one seemed interested in the wild, untamed trouble maker. The auctioneer was almost ready to give up before I raised my hand. I knew he would be a challenge, but he had something different, something I couldn't ignore.

A few weeks later he was ready to be picked up. As soon as I pulled into the yard I could hear his whinnies and screams. Oh boy, this'll be a fun drive back. As soon as I exited the truck a guy ran to meet me. He was panting and could barely speak. "Thank God you're here." He huffed, "That gulastra of yours is crazy. He's freaking everyone, including the other horses, out." "Oh, my! Ok, show me to him." I urgently commanded, not wanting my new horse to injure himself or anyone else. The stable hand showed me to a stall, farthest from everyone else's, there stood the crazy black stallion. "Hey boy," I cooed gently, "Ready to go to your ne-" And now there was horse spit on my face. "Ha! He loves doin' that. Nailed me twice today. I swear he's part llama." The guy handed me a rag and then a lead rope and halter. "Alright! He's you're problem now. Don't ask me to help you halter em' or trailer em' or anything. I'm off duty." He said before disappearing into the tack room. "What's this boy?" I asked softly as he sniffed the halter, I reached slowly toward his ears, but he wanted no part of it. He half-reared and screamed. "Shh, shh, it's ok." I spoke quietly, not wanting to scare him anymore. Eventually he let me halter him and lead him toward my truck, but once I tried to load him he again freaked out. He kicked and reared and I nearly lost hold of the lead rope. By now everyone at the facility was watching me struggle with the infamous gulastra troublemaker. He was so out of control that the on-call vet had to give him a tranquilizer in order to get him anywhere near the trailer. Once I got him home I quickly lead him to his new stall, thankfully he was still sort of out of it so he didn't put up much of a fight. While I waited for him to recover I thought of a name... I looked around, trying to see if I saw anything that reminded me of him. There wa a storm coming, the wind through the treetops said it. The way they swayed and turned inwardly. That's it! I mentally exclaimed. Wind Through the Treetops. He was fleeting, just like a breeze. One second he was calm and the next he was wild, forceful and unstoppable. Now, I thought, What will his barn name be? I pulled out my phone and searched for names that held a similar meaning, and then I came across it. Trystan, it meant riot, or tumult. That described him perfectly. By this time I noticed that he had begun to regain his faculties. "Hi, Trystan." I said cheerily, and he pricked his ears eagerly, for which I fed him a treat.

Task 2:

I kept Trystan quarantined until the vet could come and take a look. I myself had observed him for any illnesses, and he looked fine, besides the briars that still clung to his mane and tail and the mud that covered him, neither of which he would let me at to clean. It took about an hour & a half, between Trystan rearing, kicking, and spitting. Finally the vet had finished his exam and giving Trystan a couple shots, along with a clean bill of health. "Just get him cleaned up, is all I ask." Said the tall, brunette doctor while patting the black stallion on the neck. "I think he'll turn out to be a pretty good horse. Just needs some TLC." He said while smiling. After the vet had left I decided I was going to once again attempt to clean up the gulastra trouble maker. I led him to the washing stall, not without his protesting of course. I had to tighten the lead rope around rungs of the neighboring stall so that he couldn't bite me. After I finished washing him I led him out to the paddock. He looked so happy as he frolicked about. So full of energy and life. I was sure I had made the right decision.

Task 3:

It's been about a month that Trystan has been with me. Every day I see progress. I've managed to saddle him, and I've begun cross country training with him. The thing about Trystan is that he doesn't do anything he doesn't want to do. So sometimes training him can be a little difficult. Coaxing him out of the paddock can be a hassle too. There's not much that he can be won over with. He doesn't fall for the fake food in my hand/pocket trick, he doesn't listen to sweet talk, so most times we have to wait until he is ready to come in. He treats me like I'm his servant. I don't know where this stallion came from, but apparently he was royalty in another life. Despite all that, though, I still love him. And I'm sure we'll make a great pair in the arena. Some of his recent accomplishments include:

Trailering smoothly,
Accepting the halter,
Accepting a saddle and bridle,
Not bucking small amounts of weight on
his back.

I'd say he's come pretty far, and I'm excited for what the future holds. Later this year he and I plan to enter our first cross country competition. We have a lot if training to do, but I'm sure we can do it. Trystan and I make a pretty good pair.
