Name: Tiro
Gender: Male
Personality: Much like his appearance, Tiro has a bit of a hot temper and can be hard to get to know because of it. He doesn't let others close very easily, both metaphorically and literally. Because of his past, Tiro doesn't place his trust in just anyone, and it takes a lot of persistance to get him to open up.
On the outside, Tiro is a closed, cold, and distant Sleepy. He is short with his replies and keeps his distance from others. He doesn't speak of his past or anything having to do with himself other than his name. He's quick to hiss and put on a big display of aggression to get others to back of, unwilling to let anyone get even physically near him let alone emotionally close too. Anyone who tries will just get burned, as lava drips from his mouth with every word he says and his body itself emits heat like a volcano. In the end, he keeps others at bay to keep them safe.
Or at least that's how he justifies it to himself. In reality, it's to keep himself from being burned as well. Too many times he's trusted someone and it's just ended with him getting hurt, and he doesn't want it to happen again. If he keeps others away from him, then he can't get hurt anymore either.
He's actually not as tough as he'd like everyone to think he is. He wants to leave the impression of being able to destroy anything in his path, but he wouldn't be able to bring himself to actually hurt anyone. He knows what it feels like to be trapped and betrayed, to be used as a tool, and he doesn't want anyone around him to ever have to feel that. He will hiss and grumble spitefully all day long, but the moment he sees someone in trouble, Tiro will do anything he can to help them.
Awakening: Years. It'd been years since Tiro had last seen the sun. Curled into a tight ball floating in lava of an active volcano, Tiro had slept for years, avoiding those who would have used him. Though it seemed as though he had finally awoken to the island once more.
Carefully the sleepy dragon clawed his way free of the mouth of the volcano, pulling himself up and onto the craggy rock there. He looked as though he were made from the very molten rock he had pulled himself from. Traces of the lava and rock were left behind, dripping from him and leaving fiery footsteps in his wake. As if it had only been a day that he had gone to sleep, the dragon quickly made his way to the beach, trying to touch as little of the plantlife as he could.
So much had changed, and yet so much was the same as well. The trees were taller, the brush was thicker as well. But the sand still melted its way to glass underfoot, and likewise the sea fizzled and boiled, causing him pain as the water cooled his skin. Same as before as well. Though the ships were long gone, either decayed and washed away or fixed up and sailed away in peace, it didn't really matter. The point was they were gone.
Though a voice startled him from his thoughts as he stared out to see. When he turned, he was face to face with another sleepy dragon, a normal sleepy, calling herself Siren and asking how he had gotten there. He had been asleep for a long while indeed...
Background: Tiro isn't sure how he was born, the first memory he has was of a human handling him with thick gloves and taking him away. From there, the only thing Tiro had known, was the forgery in the blacksmith's home. Tiro was an infinite source of heat that was strong enough to melt any metals that the blacksmith wanted. He didn't have to waste time stoking fires or rekindling them, not when he had Tiro.
Tiro was a tool to him, as was any other smithing tool. And as such, Tiro's place was in the reinforced cage beneath the forge, keeping it lit by virtue of just being there.
The blacksmith became renowned for his pet and his skills, as it was said that from the touch of a legendary dragon such as Tiro, the weapon itself was legendary as well. Eventually, the smith was sought after by someone who was able to pay handsomely for his presence. Of course when faced with money, the smith agreed. He had long ago thought of a way to travel with the abnormal sleepy dragon.
And so the ship set sail, with Tiro below deck in a metal cage kept chilled with massive amounts of ice. As a storm hit and the ship was forced to run aground or sink, the metal cage was jostled loose, and far enough away from the ice that kept him miserable and unable to escape, Tiro melted the metal cage and burned a hole in the wood.
Running through the foliage of the island, setting mini fires as he went as his molten rock skin touched the flammable grasses, he finally reached the volcano. Cold, seeking warmth, and afraid he would once again be captured, Tiro leaped into the lava. It was like being enveloped in a blanket to him. It was warm and comforting, promising protection from those who would harm him or use him. It was what he needed after years of being used. And so he fell into a deep sleep that lasted for centuries.
Relationship with Humans: Tiro does not like humans. He doesn't trust them, any of them. Humans have only ever used him, saw him as nothing more as a trophy or tool, and so he thinks lowly of humans in general.
If any human were to come and visit the island, Tiro sticks around the volcano, an easy escape and what he considers most to be "his" territory. He'll hiss and spit at any human that comes near him, and usually this is enough to deter them. If it doesn't however, Tiro flees to the mouth of the volcano, where it is too hot and dangerous for the human tourists to travel.
Though he doesn't like humans, he doesn't wish to hurt them. He knows his body very well, and he knows that he would burn them badly if he were to touch them. So for their sake he flees when they get too close...as well as for his own, just in case one would have the means to pick him up and take him away again.
Finally having a place to call home, whether he likes it or not, is not something he'd want to lose.
