story;;Fog rolled across the hills as Zellius looked out of his window. He could hardly see a thing, let alone Albion, the one he was looking for. Wait, was that movement down there? His amber eyes practically touched the windowpane as he leaned in, squinting, trying to make out what had-
"Hey."
"Oh my gosh, Albion!" Zellius leaped backward, his tuft of green hair throwing itself backward against his forehead. "You know you can't be in here. What if my parents, or any of the servants, saw you?" He whispered, throwing a glance to the tall wooden door the other boy had entered through.
"Oh, Zell, you know it's worth it to be with you. I love you." He said this last bit with so much anxiety in his eyes, as if he wasn't expecting Zellius to say it back.
"I love you just as much, if not more." The green kalon replied, in his usual regal tone.
Albion flicked his tail in response. "Then let's run off together. Forsake our parents. Become kings of some new kingdom. Our parents can keep their rivalry to themselves. We have each other." He meant it mostly as a joke, but if Zell were up to it, Al would definitely go along.
Zellius flopped onto his bed, belly up, and Albion did the same, right next to him. After taking a deep, lung filling breath, and letting it out slowly yet surely, he responded, "You know what? Let's do it." He dropped his princely manner, instead sounding like just a normal teenager. "I want to be with yo-" before he could finish, his door slammed open, and his father, King Elren, came in.
His mouth opened to speak, but closed when his eyes landed on Albion. "Son! Why do you have the Prince of Serith in your room?"
The king's gaze was met defiantly by Albion's. He motioned with his head for Zellius to get up and follow him. "We're leaving. Goodbye."
"My son wouldn't do that, especially not with a boy from Serith." The word Serith left his mouth like it had tasted bad. The boys continued walking, and The King's voice raised. "Guards! After them!"
Zellius called over his shoulder, "Follow me!" at Albion, turning the opposite corner than would seem intuitive, and knocked over a small statue. A doorway opened up, and Zell closed it behind him, leaving the two kalons in a narrow passageway. "My father will figure out which way we went eventually, so we need to make haste."
They raced toward the outside of the castle, and once they were out, they kept running. They paused for a quick breath once they were quite a ways out of the kingdom. They were free. They were free to choose who and what to be. They were free to be together, never having to worry about their parents' rivalry ever again. They were free. (485/500)
