"A Day in the Life"
Yawning, Carvell crawled around and adjusted his short stack of papers, them being a little bigger than him. Right now he was given the task of cleaning up, the day dwindling to a point. Lifting them carefully over his body, he slid them into the correct folder and was left eyeing from the huge desk of mahogany wood, bored out of his mind and exhausted from a day's work, shooing noisy children away from the quiet average hard-working person. Perhaps he should be more thankful of his librarian friend; this life was easy, but what if he was
the librarian? Unlikely, he knew because of his size and he wasn't human, but the aroma of books lured him in far too much, or was that the rush of being in charge? His eyes fluttered and he lie down atop of the desk, staring sleepily at the sparkly books flying to and fro, organizing themselves into each bookshelf row. He then wondered why is it that the papers don't organize themselves, had the grand wizard of a librarian not know or just wanted to give him something to do? Shrugging, Carvell murmured to himself or no one at all, "I suppose it's a waste of magic, isn't it? Papers can ruin and crack easily." And with that, he drifted off to a faint slumber.
Suddenly, he felt some strange being tap him on his side. Rubbing his eyes gently, he shifted over and opened up to see his master and he stood up, a little ashamed that he slept on the job. The librarian didn't seem to be upset, though, he hoped; Carvell couldn't exactly tell what she was saying. She smiled, so he supposed it was okay. Books no longer flew around, satisfied with their positions, and the library was empty. Her arm was set onto the desk and after a while Carvell knew what that meant: it was time to go home. Climbing atop of the limb, gentle not to scratch, he sat atop her shoulder, burrowing into her soft shoulder a bit. As they were leaving, he couldn't help but think that he wouldn't give her up for the world. [363/500 words]
