defining point: out on a geology report in the remote, snowy world of antarctica,
his field partner had a life-threatening injury. more than 100 miles away from the
closest hospital and with a snow storm on it's way, kyösti was put to the test. alone
in the wilderness and no way of contacting base camp until the storm passed, he was
forced to make do and help save their life with a few scraps of cloth and luck. he was
able to use the small bit of medical knowledge he had and help his partner through the
night until they were able to call for rescue. the feeling and rush of determination he
got through the experience inspired him to leave his scientific career and become a
medic in the same field. kyösti loves his job as he is able to help others while doing
what he loves.
