Show Name: We Were Soldiers
Barn Name: Veteran
Story: Renegade War VeteranPersonality:Veteran is known to be more tame than his brother Renegade. He isn't as rebellious for one and tends to try to tame his brother rather than join him. He can be highly secretive and rarely speaks of his past as a horse that was used in combat. He prefers to keep to himself and stay quiet. He would basically be the equivalency of the guy in a dark mysterious corner in some bar. Quiet. Alone. Mysterious.
To his brother he is a protector and a guide. He wants to guide his brother down the right path out of fear for his brother to go down the wrong path. He wants to insure his brother's future and keep him from going rogue. He is not happy about his brother's rebellious nature. He would like for his brother to be more responsible.
To a lover he is passionate. He will devote his time and energy making her feel like a princess. He wants to do the right thing and be the best stallion he possibly can be for his girl. He will treat her right and make sure she is happy, healthy, loved, and well cared for.
This little authoritive boy might seem to be overbearing at times. It really honestly isn't his fault. He learned a lot while in combat. He might be bold at times if the need demands and always strives to be the better horse. He doesn't like excuses and prefers the truth. The more honest the better. He doesn't really care how honest. This part of him is highly contrasted to his secretive nature. He likes honesty, but doesn't want to tell everyone what he knows. He would much rather keep it to himself than to exploit everything.
Relationship with Brother:Veteran tries his best to calm his wild brother,
Renegade, and get him to think clearly before he acts. Sometimes he wishes his brother would be more responsible and reasonable. Veteran believes it is his soul purpose to care for his brother. After all, he did make a promise to their dam and sire that he would watch over and care for his brother in the war after the family had been separated.
Veteran finds it hard to trust his irresponsible brother. Since Renegade often gets in trouble, Veteran has had to bail him out of it. He doesn't mind helping his brother, but he wishes he would listen to his advice and learn to follow commands. He doesn't give advice just to be bossy, he does so because he loves and cares about his brother. He wants his brother to succeed in life and is willing to pull through in order to help him.
Renegade often rejects his brother's protective and caring nature. He is always so independent and foolish. Hence why he is often in trouble. Still, however, Veteran does care deeply about his brother because he is all he has. Veteran never had time to find a mate. Between the army and Renegade, he just didn't have the time to search for a mare that could possibly calm him down. He isn't searching for one because he would rather stick close and watch over his only family member left. He will remain Renegade's guardian for many years to come and will probably never stop being a guardian to those he loves most.
Renegade did try to push a sweet, darling little girl at him. Her name was
Belle. She was really interested in him, but Veteran thought it best to ignore the poor girl. He didn't have time for a mate. He wanted to protect his brother. He would only admit to himself that saying no to Belle did hurt. Perhaps later on in time he would come back and sweep her off her feet and show her the wonders of the world.
The two worked closely together in their time as combat horses. They worked together, but often times did not see eye to eye. Veteran would always know what to do that would be safe for everyone else. Renegade however would be the rebellious one that would do whatever it took even if it could have hurt someone else. It's these times that Veteran wished his brother was responsible and smart to figure things out. Yes, he is proud of his brother when he does do something right, but can quickly get disappointed in his brother. Don't get him wrong, he loves his brother in a way that only a brother can, but sometimes his brother does need to be taught a lesson.
There was time when his brother would continually run off from the rest of the force. He would purposely break his ripe and try to run. It wasn't till the army had named him runaway and sold him off to a stable that finally knocked some sense into him. Perhaps he enjoyed his time away from the army, but Veteran doesn't know. He stayed with the army till they retired him and sent him to a retirement home at Artillery Stables. He was allowed to see his brother and stay at a pasture that sat nearby the other stables where Renegade was kept. Veteran is still trying g to give his brother advice and continue to make him a better horse.
