Second Chance Shelter is a dog and cat rescue where you can come to find a new member of your family. We rescue and rehabilitate dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes so they may have the chance to be placed into a caring home. All of our animals are special and deserve a chance to be happy with an owner that will care for them. The question is: are you ready to love them?

These poor dogs were transported from a local puppy mill, of which has been shut down properly, in ill condition. The right one had an infected eye so we had to remove it to prevent the infection from spreading. Despite the infection, the right one seems to have a stronger immune system than the left so the left is susceptible to diseases. They seem to have a close bond so they must be adopted together. They were raised by our staff from young ages and are now ready to be adopted properly!

What activity do they like to do together the most?: Akiro and Milo love to jump around and go out to the backyard, endlessly barking when the mailman comes even if the mailman is on the complete opposite side of the house. Who knows? Maybe there's a mailman in the forest or Milo and Akiro just dont get that the mailbox is in the front yard not backyard. Anyways, they'll bark and bark until they can't hear or scent the mailman anymore. These two boys were trained off leash, but that doesn't stop them from leaping at the mailman and attempting to give kisses to him. Akiro and Milo must be pretty thankful for the mail coming everyday, but sunday obviously.

What activity do they like to do together the most?:
Better believe it, their favorite activity to do together is pull the sled kept in the garage during the summer, through the snow in the yard, and let the family's little daughter ride on it. They have a two dog hitch system, and their own red and blue harnesses, and in summer sometimes Dad [that's what they refer to him as] will put these little wheels on the wooden sled thing, and they can pull Sammie around in the summer as well.

What activity do they like to do together the most?:
Alex and Leah love summer time. Going on walks to the pier is one of their most favorite activities because they get to meet so many new people. They love going down to the beach to lay in the warm sand and go swimming in the water. Then when they're all tired out they like to go and get vanilla ice cream with little dog bones on top. Leah loves the music that's played on the pier and Alex expecially likes making new friends. After a long day at the beach they both enjoy going back home and watching tv on the couch together until they eventually fall asleep from the tiresome day.

Collar Color: Black, with little white stars. The clip is brass colored. Don't put it on him in a way that he can see the clip, or he'll run.
Personality: A bit shy. After his time spent in the puppy mill, he's inexplicably scared of metal utensils, like forks and spoons. Even metal bowls spook him. Plastic versions don't bother him, though. He needs a plastic bowl for food and one for water. Even though he's a bit shy, and scared of metal objects, he warms up to you very quickly, and once he does, he's a cuddly ball of love! He needs lots of love and exercise, so you should be prepared to be spending most of your time caring for him and Laika. He tends to be wary around strangers, and dogs other than Laika, and as such is not recommended for households with other pets. However, both he and his sister would be good with children! Aries is independent and introverted, enjoying sitting alone and relaxing while Laika plays, and he doesn't enjoy toys as much as she does. He does, however, enjoy being pet, and is very affectionate. Just don't expect him to run up to you and jump up. He tends to "mouth" your hands while petting or playing. Don't be worried, he has a surprisingly soft mouth and is not aggressive at all. He will not bite you, but he will often mouth your hand, and hold it in his mouth. Just pull away gently and he'll let go. Sometimes he follows your hand, but sometimes he doesn't. He loves chin tickles, ear scratches, and, surprisingly, he enjoys having his tail stroked. If he's getting too excited as you pet him, just rub his tail a little and he calms down. He doesn't really like hugs, so avoid it. He also hates wearing dog clothes.

Personality: Laika is a little ball of energy! Even after her time in the puppy mill, she's loving and excitable, and needs more affection and exercise than Aries. She isn't very destructive, though, and, like Aries, will never scratch or bite. She does jump, though, so she might not be the best with young children. She loves hugs! A warm hug, with your arms around her chest (not her neck, don't choke her!), calms her down in seconds, and she'll be in full cuddlebug mode until you stop petting her. She's the polar opposite of Apollo in personality; she needs constant affection and playtime to be satisfied. She loves new people, and often jumps up to greet them. She's very gentle, like Aries, but she's not as calm. When petting her, avoid her missing eye. If you touch there (or her other eye, for that matter) she'll run. Unlike Aries, she is okay with wearing clothing for dogs, and in fact she loves scarves. Whether it's wearing them or getting entangled in them, Laika always loves a good scarf. She also likes blankets, so she would enjoy a blanket over her at night.
What activity do they like to do together the most?: They both love water! A kiddie pool would probably be sufficient. The two love splashing around, rolling and tumbling together in it, and in larger bodies of it they like to play a game near the shore, where Aries hides underwater (his head poking out) and Laika splashes around him. There doesn't seem to be any point to this. Aries enjoys jumping off a dock and paddling around, swimming in deeper waters, while Laika likes running into big waves. As such, she loves the shore and the sandbar, especially where the waves go high. Don't bring her into really big waves, though! They both need lifejackets, as Aries has a bit of trouble keeping himself afloat for more than a few minutes, and Laika often gets in over her head, and she can't swim well, so she needs one if she's at a sandbar.
Other: Right now the shelter is using plastic bowls for Aries and metal ones for Laika, which he doesn't seem to mind as long as they're on the other side of the room. Aries and Laika hate cramped spaces, which likely comes from their time in tiny cages at the puppy mill, so they should not be placed in dog crates. They also will likely need a large dog bed, either for each of them or one massive one to sleep on together, like a doggy futon. It is suggested that these two have a guest room to themselves; a 'dog room', if you will, containing their bed/s, food and water, a few toys, and dog supplies - out of their reach, of course! You should be able to spend lots of time in this room playing with them. They should also have access to a medium to large fenced off backyard, preferably with a wooden fence. Please use only positive reinforcement on these two.

These two love to play in the snow, maybe it is in their blood, or maybe they have their own reasons, but they love to dig snow tunnels and chase each other in and out of them.
Personalities:
Stella is the quiet, shy one. She is less outgoing and more elegant. When outside on walks she is the one who actually walks while her sister pulls ahead, trying to get to her destination faster. Though she is shy, she is very sweet once she warms up to you and loves to cuddle. She loves children and puppies, seeming to have a soft spot for anything small. She is very motherly and surprisingly protective of those she loves. She likes being an indoor dog more than being an outdoor dog. She loves her blanket and a warm fire. While she could easily excel as sports such as agility, she has very little competitive drive and prefers a quiet life. She is always trying to get her sister to calm down and think before she leaps.
Andromeda is a handful for sure. She likes to run and play and cause all sorts of mischief. She definitely has a competitive spirits and likes anything that requires plenty of speed and activity. She is way more bubbly and bold than her quiet sister. She is more wary though, less likely to be cuddly or friendly toward people. She isn’t aggressive, just cautious. When she truly trusts someone her loyalty knows no bounds. She loves her sister and is always trying to protect her. In her mind Stella needs protecting being so shy, but in Stella’s mind it is headstrong, leap then think Andromeda who needs the protecting.
They may never agree on who needs protecting more, but for the most part they get along. Sure, sometimes they drive each other crazy, but what siblings don’t really?
If these two were evaluated in people terms Stella would be quiet, elegant, and sophisticated with a classic taste and level head.
Andromeda would be athletic, wild, and motivated without a trace of naivety.

What activity do they like to do together the most?: Nikki and Wylie have been together for a awhile so they have dint some fun things together. They like to run around with there owner on walks. They always have been able to run around with the animals at the farm and they love playing with the calfs. They have to be careful sometimes. They love being by the fire on cold winter nights and sleeping together to stay warm. They will sometimes help with getting some of the farm chores done. They're not really good at it, but they try to help. They love messing with the horses and sheep as well. Just because they are funny to watch run to them. They don't get a lot of snow where they live, but when they do they take great advantage to it. They will just play like crazy in it.

hey, guys! Just so you know, they can both be either gender so you don't have to do only one male and one female. They could both be male or female. Also, they are siblings so they can't breed w/ eachother or have a romantic relationship.

(they also don't/shouldn't remember the puppy mill as they were raised and fed by the staff so they more than likely couldn't see or hear at that time)
