Second Chance Shelter wrote:Second Chance Shelter is a dog and cat rescue where you can come to find a new member of your family. We rescue and rehabilitate dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes so they may have the chance to be placed into a caring home. All of our animals are special and deserve a chance to be happy with an owner that will care for them. The question is: are you ready to love them?

This poor boy was given up by their owner because there was problems in the household. We believe this is due to him being de-clawed at an early age, causing pain in his paws and having them be very sensitive. He was not properly treated for the pain so walking long distanced and going in the litter box was painful so he stopped.
Despite his pain, this boy is very sweet and loves pets and cuddles. His favorite place is on your lap or under a blanket.
PROMPT: How will you treat his pain and get him to use the litter box? [

How will you treat his pain and get him to use the litter box?:
I would use some declaw solution on his paw pads twice a day wile helping him exercise his paws, for exercising I would do small bouts of time before building up how long we do it. Since doing both things for declawed cats are extra helpful and will keep the pain away more then just doing one of the two, I would make sure to regularly keep doing the two and reward him for letting me do so. As for the litter box I will slowly start walking him to the litter box or have the litter box near his bed so he can use it more frequently.

How will you treat his pain and get him to use the litter box?: For the litter box issue I'd actually let him use the bathroom outside. So he'd be an outdoor and indoor cat. I'd just teach him not the pee or poo inside the house. I'd also teach him to meow at the door when he wants to go outside. This is actually what I had done with a previous cat I owned and it was de-clawed as well. I'd make sure he would stay off the road and I would be sure to watch for predator birds while he is outside. In the event there is a predator bird near by, I'd bring him back inside.
As for treating his pain, I'd have my uncle, who's an excellent vet that I trust, to take a look at his paws. I'd get his valuation as to what I should do because sometimes cats with de-clawed pains have to do with the procedure done poorly and might need to go through surgery to get the damages fixed. I also don't know a lot on it which is why I'd have my uncle take a lot at him to confirm it. He might just need some daily medication for all I know. Afterwards I'd encourage him to be more active by playing with him and hopefully he'll slowly increase his actiness, such as walking more. I wouldn't force him though if it hurt and even after he's healed up I'll still play with him.

Alright! Sorry for taking so long I had school.
I chose Kage the shadow to be the new owner of this beautiful boy. Although SergeantWinter gave more explanation, I went on the breed of the Persian and how they are normally kept due to them mostly being show/indoor cats (I have 2 of them and both are indoor as well). Them being kept indoors is because 1: they don't really have street smarts and often get carried away by large birds 2: usually have no desire to go or be outside.
I also thought this would be a little more bonding as well with his treatment.
I thank you both for participating and hope you both have a wonderful day/evening/night! <3
