Second Chance Shelter is a dog and cat rescue where you can come to find a new member of your family. We rescue and rehabilitate dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes so they may have the chance to be placed into a caring home. This chipper little guy was picked up from a nearby house that was about to be torn down. We found him tied up to a post, starving and dehydrated. After having fed him up, given him some fluids and updated his medications, we found out that he had a paralyzed leg that caused him a lot of pain. So we decided to amputate that leg to stop the pain as the leg was no longer saveable.

The word best fitting for this dog is chipper. Abacus is probably the happiest and liveliest dog or animal you will ever meet. Always in a good mood and always happy to see you, nothing will put a smile on your face like this guy hopping around with excitement, his tail wagging rapidly back and forth. Despite his amputation, Abacus lives close to a normal life, and with a training has learned to do everything a normal dog can do, and more thanks to his great intellect and trainability. It was his brain that earned him his name, a name meaning, "a mathematical possibility, but the odds are against it." Such a phrase is so true and relevant for Abacus that he was given his name, a fitting name for a dog that seemed to "break the odds".

Other:
Due to a history of being abandoned, Abacus has developed some severe separation anxiety, however with a little work he is slowing getting better.

Personality: Mutsuki is quite a sweet and lovable boy, despite missing one of his legs. He does not let the 'disability' get to him, and he is quite friendly and highly energetic. This boy has bonded with the sweet girl Mutsumi, whom has a disability of her own, and just as she hopes for it seems he too wants to go home with her. He also enjoys walks, swimming, music, and cuddles.
Other: His favorite food is a meatloaf dinner specially made for dogs, he adores his stuffed duck, and he loves milk-bones.
