Collab Art/Story: From Pyre's point of view [star's story is the same, simply from Onyx's point of view]:
Onyx slipped the wreath of flowers onto my tail, laughing devilishly as he managed it. I only returned a glare--although, I didn't really mean it. He was probably the only reason I still retained sanity after the events of the past few years. "Done with the flowers?"
"Noooo!" Onyx batted his eyelashes at me. "That's s'posed to go on your head. We gotta look charming so we don't get suspected."
"I would have never thought we could be suspected for the crimes we commit," I commented dryly.
"Shhh!" His paws found a place over my face, his eyes lighting up as he grinned. "It's a
secret! Just charm people by givin' em the flowers from your butt-crown, alright? It's simple, and then we can pick their pockets."
And that would in turn bring food. I nodded, resigning myself to this. "Alright."
A few hours later, I found myself separated from my brother in the crowd, my heart tightening as something invisible squeezed around my chest. I had gone after one person, while he had gone after another, both targets out of sight of the other. Mine was a failure--I had not managed to pick their pocket, as I had realized partway through that Onyx was nowhere to be found.
Where was he? It seemed as though the crowd was crushing me from both sides, cruelly shutting me off from him, making it impossible to find the only remaining family member I had to me, the only one who hadn't rejected me. "Onyx?" I managed only a wheeze, desperately shoving myself into the crowd of bodies in an attempt to find him.
And then I saw it.
His fingers reached out to me, offering a lifeline amongst the terror of everybody else who seemed to be laughing at my terror. I snatched at his hand desperately, grabbing on and letting him pull me into a hug. He could feel me trembling, of course--I could feel the physical remnants of his own fear fading. His fingers threaded into my hair, seeking to soothe me as he mumbled under his breath in a message only to me. "My dearest younger brother..." While I usually protested at his insistence in pointing out the obvious, this was his way of calming me down. And I liked it.
Eventually, I was able to pull away, my face stoic as I recovered my poise. I could pretend that 'episode' hadn't happened, like I could pretend our shared past hadn't happened. I glanced at Onyx, shame in my eyes.
He simply grinned, and offered me a flower from his crown.
I slipped the wreath of flowers onto Pyre's tail, laughing excitedly as I managed it. Pyre only returned a glare--although, he didn't really mean it. He never really does, which is why I love seeing him grumpy. That's when he's being nicest. He really does love my jokes, even if he thinks he has to pretend he doesn't. "Done with the flowers?" He asked me.
"Noooo!" I batted my eyelashes at him. "That's s'posed to go on your head. We gotta look charming so we don't get suspected."
"I would have never thought we could be suspected for the crimes we commit," he commented dryly.
"Shhh!" I put my hand gently over his mouth, silencing him. "It's a
secret! Just charm people by givin' em the flowers from your butt-crown, alright? It's simple, and then we can pick their pockets."
And that would in turn bring food. My lil Py nodded, resigning himself to this. "Alright."
A few hours later, I found myself separated from my brother in the crowd, my heart tightening as something invisible squeezed around my chest. I had gone after one person, while he had gone after another. Neither could see the other, due to the crowd. Mine was a success--I had managed to pick their pocket before I realized Pyre was missing.
Where was he? It seemed as though the crowd was crushing me from both sides, shutting me off from him, making it impossible to find the only remaining family member I had to me, the only one who still needed me. I glanced around, trying to find him. If I lost him... I could never forgive myself.
And then I saw him.
Relief flooded me as I stuck my arm straight out towards him, calling his name to summon his attention. I could sense the desperation in his grasp, and I went straight into enveloping him in a hug, seeking to reassure him. Now wasn't the time for jokes. I could feel his trembling. My breathing was accelerated of course, but I didn't show my nerves as clearly as he did. I gently threaded my fingers into his hair, seeking to soothe him as I mumbled under my breath in a message only to him. "My dearest younger brother..." While he usually protested at my insistence in pointing out the obvious, this was my way of calming him down. And I liked providing it for him.
Eventually, Pyre was able to pull away, his face stoic as he recovered his poise. I could almost see the barriers being put back up around his emotions. He glanced at me, shame in his eyes as he realized he had suffered a breakdown in front of others. He never liked looking 'weak' as he called it. And it was up to me to reassure him in my own ways.
I simply grinned, and offered him a flower from my crown.
