Blame is a coward but self-righteous
A funny little creature hiding out in me
Hate is power with a price tag
A funny little creature screaming out in me
Listen to me
Fear is a liar but he's been right before
If you fight your shadow, you'll get lost in a war
Ambitions a champ, but he's also greedy
Drunk or sober he always wants more
I always want more
I always want more
Lust is beauty in a body bag
A funny little thing that's screaming "Just use me!"

TASK 1:
Welcoming your new dog home.
COMPLETE!

My warm leather coat seemed to shake with me as I trekked across the snowy fields to the rescue agency, where they held my new dog. When I called in, proposing to take one of these Baltic Huskies home, I was shocked to hear they had found me a match and I would meet my new companion shortly. My mind was racing with all the thoughts and feelings one would normally feel when meeting a new friend- Compassion, anxiety, fear. I had no idea what I was gettinb myself into, but I knew for sure I would meet my perfect dog. There was no getting out of this one.
Shakily, I opened the door to the huge rescue building, eagerly awaiting the appearance of my match. "Welcome." One of the employees greeted me, with a shining smile. As I walk in, scents flood my nose, of dirty dogs and food. The air is thick with fur and barks and whimpers pervade the building. 'oh dear.' I thought to myself, my anxiety taking over. Could I really do this?
The woman led me to a waiting room, its silver metal walls and checkered floors reeking with dog scent. Cute pictures of puppies were hung on the walls, making me feel a bit better. The bench was cold when I sat down, however the room was warm, and I took off my coat and gloves, revealing a city girl who really wasn't used to this cold weather. However I was willing to try and give a Baltic Husky a good home, whether or not they became a competitive dog.
My eyes shifted sideways when I heard the bark of a dog near me, only to realize that it was coming from the one they were bringing to me. Opening the door, the employee revealed a beautiful, silver-white husky who had the uncanny resemblence of a wolf. Her fur was matted and her ribs showed through, but she was full of life, tugging at her black leash in an attempt to come to me. The employee stood in the corner while I met my new dog.

The husky ran over to me as soon as she was released, however I was warned to be gentle as she was a bit old. Utterly confused, I nodded blindly and allowed the silver dog to lay her head on my lap as if she knew me. This dog? Old? That couldn't be right. Upon further investigation I learned of her story- abandoned due to her old age, she has a few sight problems and hip issues, but seeemd as lively as a puppy, her eyes glittering with excitement, she seemed to have no trouble moving around. In fact, her eyes were so blue and held so much emotion they were uncanny. I stroked her soft fur, relishing it's smooth yet coarse feeling. I knew she was the one for me. She was obviously special- coming from a rescue you would assume such dogs to be anxious and shy, however this one was different. "Do you like her?" The employee asked. There was no questioning how I felt. "No. I love her."

--------

When we returned home, I eagerly allowed my new dog inside of my ranch-style home, a very country touch to the average city girl. She seemed ecstatic, rushing to all wooden carvings, sniffing the furniture, and exploring every nook and crany in a matter of seconds, clearly happy to be here. I watched her closely for any signs of hip trouble, but it seems this dog had a bound in her step, like a puppy in an adults body. Suddenly, she turned around to me, those uncanny eyes staring right at me as if they could reveal every though, see every sin. "Eyes of the Uncanny." I said. "Thats your true name."

TASK 2:
Bonding.
COMPLETE!

To be honest, I feel like I was the nervous one a few days after I adopted Eyes of the Uncanny, or "Klondike" as I have began to call her. I really had no clue what I was getting myself into, and I didn't want to ruin our friendship, as Klondike has been really friendly lately. She seems a bit aggresive around her toys, but other than that she has been fitting in splendidly.
In fact, this huge step has even made me think about getting my own kennel. What If I got more Baltic Huskies and trained them for racing? That would be fun. I was just worried that Klondike wouldn't be able to participate due to her hip problems.
Recently I have been spoiling Klondike non-stop, and she seems to be loving it. Lately she has been getting fatter and more rounded out, and I can't even see her ribcage anymore. However signs of her past abuse are still there, in the way she looks at me and strangers. Sometimes I wonder how sentient Klondike truly is- does she feel the way I feel about her? What does she think of me and others? What if she seeks revenge to her past owner, or even me?
As my thoughts traveled, Klondike had hopped up onto the couch with me, her eyes staring directly at my hands, which where shaking as I thought of all these plans and possibilities. It took me a while to notice Klondike next to me, and I jumped when I saw her. She seemed fairly amused at my anxiety, but she had a more comforting gaze that was fixed on me. I simply blinked and allowed her to crawl onto my lap, finding her strangely light for such a big dog. She didn't stop looking at me though, and I one point I thought she was going to shoot laser out of her eyes.
"What? What are you looking at?" I asked her. Then I realized she wasn't looking at me anymore, rather the picture of my previous dogs behind me. I turned around and grabbed the picture frame, bringing it close to Klondike. "These were my two dogs, Blue and Ray. They both... Passed away around last year. They were very close." I said in a wistful tone. Klondike stared at the picture before looking back at me, and gently licked my hand. It was like she was saying, "don't worry. I am here now." I smiled and stroked her head, now covered in lush silver fur. "I know, Klondike. We will make our own story." Klondike seemed satisfied, her blue eyes filled with love and sympathy.

TASK 3:
Gaining confidence.
COMPLETE!

I can't believe how thick I was laying it on with this girl. Even if she did adopt me, I still need to make myself more useful then just laying around acting sweet. I need to look good for my age! I need to impress her, right? She can't abandon me if I do good!
I guess I haven't really looked around her humble abode yet. If I was to gain confidence, I must familiarize myself with my new home. I better get up.
I decide to make my way across the house. You know, it is quite nice. Everything is set up for me. Toys, beds, food, you name it, and it is most likely scattered around the floor somewhere. Oh well, it helps me gain my footing on these slippery floors, making my way through all the randomness on the surface.
Eventually I managed to make my rounds, checking out all corners and claiming sofas and beds as my own. My owned wont be too happy about the little poo I left on the couch, but hey, she should have let me out.

...Oh, what am I saying? I can't be mean or cruel to her. I just have to accept that sweet and affetionate is what I am. I shouldn't try to be a different dog. Heh. Here she comes. I better go own up to my act.

-----

Well, she punished me, just like I deserved. I guess I shouldn't have expeed any less for how much I showed I was trained, or how respectful I was. But she forgave me, and didn't throw me away like my previous owner. I feel kinda nice. It helped me realize that she wasn't going to get rid of me for my mistake, but instead treat me like a normal dog.
Though I feel bad, I was able to sleep well that night, knowing it wouldn't be my last in that house. People call me "old", "decrepit", whatever. At least this new woman appreciated me more than my previous one. She even let me sleep in her room, and gave me the option of the bed. The house is huge, and she is even considering getting a kennel. What more could I ask for?

More confidence.

Well, I am slowing gaining some. I feel more confident now. I just have to accept things the way they are, and not rush things.

You now, I feel more confident already.

TASK 4:
Training.
COMPLETE!

Though my bones creaked with some age, I still was excited to start my training. My tail was wagging wildly as my owner introduced me to the obstacle course which I would be training on. If I remember correctly, my old owner trained me for dog shows. I guess I was just "too old" for her.
It was no trouble for me to approach the tunnel and manage to run through it with ease. I used to love the tunnel, and running through it was like running through a new world. I excelled at it. I felt my paws touch its tender leather cover, occasionally feeling the bump of wire until I made it to the exit, the sun hitting my eyes quite suddenly.

Next was the wonderful and ever-so-hard seesaw. But I had no fear. Unlike other dogs, who cowered in fear at the sight of the tilting monster, I tackled it head on with power and force. I could almost taste the pride my owner felt when she saw my muscles rippling through my body as I pushed onward through the course.
Next was the hoops. Oh, how I used to love the hoops. The feeling you achieve by flying through their rings was almost like being a bird, taking flight. I relished every second of my taking that first leap and gracefully sliding though the small sphere with ease, my paws landing on the prickly grass only moments after my takeoff.
And last, but never least, was the cones. My body seemed to slide through the orange mini-mountains like running water, and I twisted like a snake through the obstacle, coming to a halt after I finished. I looked around at every challenge I had conquered in those short minutes of training, making me feel like a child again, running through the wind. My chest seemed to enjoy the feeling of breath running through my body, and I cherished the sweet, cold water my owner brought me after that session.
Well, that was fun. But now I need to learn how to sit. Hilarious.

Task 5:
Out for a stroll.
COMPLETE!

Strange as it seems, I found it a bit strange to walk with my owner. You see, my old owner used to walk me all the time in an attempt to keep me fit. I remember her clearly; a plump, older woman with longer white hair. Her face was always covered in heavy makeup, but her wrinkles still showed through. She almost always wore her blue jumpsuits to competitions, if I remember correctly. Or was it pink? Who knows. She was really strict and harsh. I remember her scathing words such as "Get moving you old coot!" That was one of the worst ones. And once I turned six, she dumped me. She drove me out to the woods, ripped off my collar, and simply threw me out right then and there.
I looked up at my new owner, who was young and vibrant, unlike myself. I wonder if she would dump me too? So soon after my arrival? I truly believe we have a connection.
My paws were starting to burn after the hot sun seemed to ignite the concrete. Whimpering, I pleaded for my owner to take me home. This wasn't as enjoyable as I hoped it would be. That's when I saw her- my old owner.
She seemed older, sassier, and even meaner. She stood with pride, strutting around town with her new husky, a purebred Isabella with attitude. I simply growled a low, deep growl. Her Isabella husky seemed to hate that, but what I was shocked about was the look on her face when she saw me.
Not hate, not love, not fear nor joy. Simply a gaping mouth and a hand stretched outwards toward me. Her husky yapped furiously at me, but I stood my ground. Even my owner was apprehensive about the woman, who was still with shock. "Storm..." She called my old name in barely a whisper. I turned my head and waked off, my owner trailing after me. I wanted nothing to do with her, nor her sassy husky. I did not want to hear my old name. With rage as my motive, I stormed off towards home, my owner seeming to sense my unhappiness and following me behind. I never want to see that old hag again.
