This girl was a thrown away valentine's present. She was an impulse purchase by a couple who didn't know what they were getting into. She needs an owner that understands her intelligence and energy level. She is a super smart girl almost putting a Border Collie to shame and this intelligence that can get her into lots of trouble combined with her endless energy.

Collecting Hawk

There was thumping in the boot, the sound of an eager dog travelled through the car. Aiden chuckled as he pulled up at the traffic lights and looked over his shoulder. Hawk had her head hanging over the back seats. Eyes bright and excited as her tail thumped against the side of the car. Her tongue was hanging from her mouth as she barked at her new owner. Aiden turned back to watch the lights. A few small turns later he was at the gates to his property. Then kennels had grown with him, in preparation for his new arrival, and the ones he hoped for in the future. Finally pulling up to the house Aiden slid out of the car, he walked around to the boot and opened it letting Hawk jump out. The second her paws hit the ground Hawk was exploring, sniffing at everything. Aiden walked towards the house and whistled. Hawk bounded to his side as he opened the door. A loud bark greeted them and Hawk barked in return.

The large grey and white dog padded closer slowly. The two had already been introduced a few times and had gotten on well. Hawk wagged her tail before bounding over to Frost. She nudged her nose against his side excitedly. Aiden chuckled as the two bounded of together. He followed them into the living room where Frost excitedly showed his new friend to the bed and pile of toys against the left wall.

Aiden smiled warmly watching them. He had worried Hawk may be to high energy for Frost. But it was clear already the two would get on. He had a new family member.

Becomming Friends
Frost and Hawk got on perfectly. The two slept in Aidens room, Frost on the bed as usual, Hawk on the floor.He female dog was still wary around her new human, her previous owners had admitted they didnt have much time for her. She got on a lot better with dogs than with humans, she wasnt badly behaved, she just seemed to prefer to avoid Aiden, and visitors to the house, but she would always greet there dogs. Aiden was watching her, as her and Frost bounded around the grassy, open space in front of the house. Every time Frost got to close to him Hawk would change direction to avoid getting to close.

Then he remembered something. He stood up and went on a hunt around his office, pulling out the paperwork that had accompanied her. Flicking through the pages he grinned. He had found the perfect way to bond. He hoped. He picked up Hawks lead from the back of the kitchen door and walked into the garden, whistlingfor Hawk, and raising a hand for Frost he called the two dogs over. Frost bounded to his side sliding into the house. Hawk approached more warily, watching the lead in his hand. Aiden locked the front door, securing his home before walking towards the car. Hawk followed watching the lead constantly, when she saw where they were headed her tail started to flick excitedly.

Turns out the road trip was the key. Hawk jumped into the front seat and happily let herself be clipped in. As they drove the country roads she got more and more excited. Settling in to the journey. Aiden knew it worked when a cold nose nudged his hand and a soft head nudged at his arm happily.

It wasn't perfect, but it was a start.

Does Hawk Really Need Confidence?
Hawk was an interesting dog to live with. She seemed to take challenges head on, charging into the fray. It took almost a month for Aiden to realise what her biggest issue was. He should have understood when he got the lead out, but the car trip overruled her fear. He should have understood when he walked Frost and Hawk wouldn't stop watching until they were out of view. He thought it was because Frost was going away for a little while, he never understood the real issue. One that could make his dreams of having her on a sled team impossible.

A month after Hawk came home Aiden went to take her on a walk. He had held it off, allowing her to get used to the huge property. But now it was time for her to go out. Aiden whistled, calling the young dog over, the lesd lay on the step next to him as he rubbed her ears gently. She sat, burrowing her head into into his chest. Aiden smiled listing the lead to clip it onto her collar. Hawk immediately freaked. Leaping backwards, stumbling and letting out a low growl. Aiden frowned and quickly put the lead down.

After speaking to a behaviourist Aiden worked out the problem, Hawk had a huge fear of leads. With some careful checks it was found it include ropes as well. He behaviourist came to visit over the next few weeks. With her help Aiden got Hawk willing to carry a lead or a rope, but she was still wary about wearing one.

Then his niece had an idea. Aiden gent clipped Frost onto the double lead. With some encouragement he clipped Hawk on next to him and walked the pair. With her friend at her side Hawk seemed much more comfortable. Until finally, she would walk on a lead alone.

Harnessing The Hound
Hawk may have been willing to walk on a lead, she may have gotten past her fear of ropes. But the look she gave the harness when Aidan put it in front of her showed things weren't as fixed as he hoped. Her lips were pulled back from her teeth and a low growl rumbled in her throat. Aidan rocked back onto his heels sitting on the floor, Hawk sat facing him letting her lip drop and letting out a huff.
"You can't make things easy huh girl?" said Aidan with a grin as he slid over to her and stroked her ears. Hawk pushed her head into his hand letting out another huff as he gently rubbed a hand down her back. As he gave her attention Hawk flopped down and rolled over, letting his hand tickle her belly. A soft nudge on his other hand alerted them to there company. Frost lay down on his other side to join in on the attention. Aidan chuckled at the pair and pulled the large dogs into a hug. The two put up with it for a few moments before struggling free and tackling the human with tongues. Aidan was buried under a pile of excited fluff.

After a good hour of messing about the three were tired, sweaty, and panting. The harness was left, dusty in the corner of the yard. Aidan watched Hawk as the three relaxed. She seemed calmer, almost worn out for the first time since he had taken her home. It was almost impossible to burn her out and he sighed as he realised this was a good time to try again. Carefully, slowly he draped the harness over her back, not putting it on, just contact with her fur. Hawk growled and lifted her head lazily but didn't resist.

It wasn't much. But it was a beginning.
