Task 1 - Welcoming your new dog home - Complete
I sat on my couch, browsing on my laptop. The T.V. was turned on to my favorite reality show, Ashe's head on her paws, lying down beside me. I was on the Baltic Winter Sled Dog Rescue Association website, looking at all the poor dogs who needed homes. It was the same place I got my sweet girl Ashe. The flashback brought happy memories and I pet Ashe on the head, she looked up at me with the sweetest eyes.

I went back to the website and decided to look through the males' section, and stumbled upon the cutest little boy. He was a beautiful Tricolor with Irish White. I couldn't stop looking at the pictures of he cute little face, staring sadly into the camera. I started to feel really bad, but I decided I would sleep on it. I closed my laptop, and turned off the T.V. I stood up, with Ashe following behind. The blue irish ticked dog picked up her copper pup; Ace, and followed me up the stairs. Once upstairs, the three of us settled into bed, and I began thinking about the adorable little dog I saw in the rescue center.

The next morning after I woke up and took the dogs for a walk, I went back to my laptop to make my final decission. I was going to help the poor pup. I sent an email to one of the staff at the Rescue Center regarding the tricolored male and waited for a response.

It was getting late so I fed the dogs and checked my inbox and was delighted to see I had gotten an email back. It was settled, I was going to pick him up in the morning.

I was driving on my way back to my house from the Rescue Center, the crate with my new boy was in the back seat. I felt bad for him, the poor thing must be terrified. The staff told me that he was found in a parking lot dodging traffic.

I pulled up my driveway and could already hear the excited welcoming barks coming from inside the house.

I ran in to go put the dogs into the backyard, so they wouldn't frighten the newcomer. Then I went back to the truck to get the crate. I brought it into the living room, I then set up the baby gate like I had with Ashe, opened the crate and left the living room. It was still pretty early so I made myself a coffee, then got some food and water for Kodi. Kodi was what I decided to name him.

Task 2 - Bonding - Complete
It was the evening of the day I got Kodi, me and Ashe had gone to Phina's house for some training and had brought Ace with us to play with Martha and Vulcan, his friend and brother. But when we got back, Kodi was still in his crate, not his food nor his water had been touched and i was starting to get worried about him.

I made the mistake of watching Kodi instead of Ashe and Ace because, because they both ran over to the gate. Ashe was sniffing cautiously, but Ace was barking playfully and jumping up at the gate. I was surprised to see Kodi poke his head out of his crate, but only to growl and bark at them out of fear. I quickly picked up the puppy and Ashe followed me and I put them both outside. Kodi was a skittish one and I had to be more careful.

It was getting darker out so i put the dogs upstairs to sleep, and had decided to sleep on the couch with Kodi like I had with Ashe. At first we growled at me from inside his crate, but soon calmed. I settled down on the couch, and soon fell into a light sleep.

I woke up to Kodi sniffing my hand, which had fallen on the floor while I was sleeping. He sniffed it, and I had woken up, but as soon as I liften my head, he ran for his crate to hide again. I could have kicked myself. He finally came out of his crate, then I had to scare him and he went back. I looked around and noticed he had finally eaten his food and had a little water.

I soon driften off to sleep again only to be woken up by kodi sniffing my hand again, I gently liften my head, but this time he didn't run away. I was greatful for his confidence and reached to give him a gentle cratch behind the ears. He cowered away and I was scared he would go back into his crate, but then he came back up to me and let me pet him.

Task 3 - Gaining Confidence - Complete
It has been a few weeks since me and Kodi first started bonding, and he was really warmed up to me now, but was absolutely terrified of the other dogs. He would bark and growl when ever Ashe or Ace would walk by the cage. He especially didn't like Ace because he was to hyper and would scare Kodi when he came jumping up on the gate trying to get to him.

I really wanted him to gain a little confidence and maybe get along with at least one of the dogs, so I decided he should meet with Ashe, sinse she was the calmer of the two, and would respect his space.

When I felt Kodi was calm, I opened the gate to let Ashe in, it was already expected that Kodi would growl and bark in defence, and Ashe respected him and that he was afraid. So she lied down in kne corner of the room, rolling onto her back in submission to show him she wasnt a threat.

Kodi Sat down, watching her, before cautiously walking over to her to inspect. After Kodi realized that she was a not threat, she got up and sat beside him. Ashe invited him to play and roughouse with him, and I was surprised to see that he gladly joined her.

I watched the two of them play for a while, glad that they were getting along before I decided to introduce Ace. I gently lifted him over the gate and he immediately ran over to Kodi jumping up at him. Kodi only sniffed at him before inviting him to play with him and his mother.

I soon decided to join in, because why not? So I opened the gate to let myself in and the four of us continued to roughouse.

Task 4 - Training - Complete
It has now been a good 3-4 months since I got Kodi, he is a wonderful dog. He is always shy around new dogs and new settings, but other wise he's pretty playful. Since he has started trusting me more, as long as I'm with him, it only takes a few minutes for him to get used to new surroundings.

Since he is a Baltic Winter Sled Dog, he was made for sledding, so, I talked with Phina and we decided we could bring the dogs together and practice.

I went over to Phina's house again, so that all the dogs could train together. Phina also had a rescue she was training for the first time today as well, named Ooda. We put them in a formation Phina planned out, so everyone had an experienced dog beside them. These were so far not the official spots for my dogs, but close enough to give them an idea of what it was like to pull a sled; Vasht and Ooda were Lead Dogs, Ashe and Kodi were Swing Dogs, Blush Vulcan Martha and Pompeii were Team Dogs, and Doctor and Ace were Wheel Dogs.

Phina took them for a few rounds before letting me have a go. I then took them on a few rounds making sure that Kodi was doing alright. He loved it, every second of it. After a few more rounds, we unharnessed the dogs and me and Phina both agreed they made a great team. i took Ashe Kodi and Ace home to have some relaxing time after a good workout.

Ever since that first training, Kodi gets super excited every time i put his harness on. He was born to be a racer.
